By:

TEATRON Theatre presents The World Premiere of A HAMBURGER IN A PITA a comedy by Toronto playwright Nina Shenhav at the Toronto Centre for the Arts - Studio Theatre
5040 Yonge St., Toronto

Closes March 13, 2011
The Liebermans are typical Canadian secular Jews. The Noys are typical Israeli secular Jews-and now, neighbours to the Liebermans. Differences of mentality and mannerism lead to tensions, but when their children fall in love with each other and with Judaism, the parents find that they have much more in common than they thought.

"Nina Shenhav's wit and funny writing, well known to her newspaper column's readers, make this comedy of contradictions a rage" says Ari Weisberg, Artistic Director of TEATRON Theatre. "The depiction of the two households, with their differences in mentality, language and attitude, fills this play with many funny situations, while at the same time bringing thought provoking and intimate themes to the forefront. It's always a pleasure working on a new play and introducing new subjects to the theatre," says Weisberg, "and working on A HAMBURGER IN A PITA was especially fun."

TEATRON Theatre has assembled a great cast for A HAMBERGER IN A PITA. The cast of eight includes returning actors: Ron Boyd (THE DYBBUK, BLUISH, KOSHER LUTHERANS), Barb Granek-Gutstein (THE DYBBUK), Richard Hoffman (KOSHER LUTHERANS) and Menachem Sifen (CONVERSATIONS WITH MY FATHER, THE DYBBUK), as well as Nikki Hogan, Sabrina Kolbegger, Ivana Stojanovic and Brandon Wickens who are making their début appearances with TEATRON Theatre after working with other theatres in the past.

Directed by Ari Weisberg, Artistic Director and founder of TEATRON Theatre, A HAMBURGER IN A PITA closes TEATRON Theatre's eighth season of fine Jewish-themed plays.

TEATRON Toronto Jewish Theatre is a professional theatre producing plays from Canada and the world's communities, unveiling the treasures of Jewish tradition, enriching and inspiring the Jewish experience of all theatregoers, leading to better understanding and harmony, while maintaining Jewish values.
