Dancer, choreographer and conceptual artist María Pagés, the most internationally renowned Flamenco artist in the world, will visit Toronto for one performance only at the Sony Centre For The Performing Arts tonight, March 30, 2013. Tickets are on sale now!

Since 1990, when María Pagés Compañía was first founded, Pagés has created a fiercely traditional yet boldly modern Flamenco dance vocabulary. It is said, that only those who have experienced suffering and loss, or burning passion, can truly understand and dance flamenco.

"Pagés personal form of dancing and style, fills the stage with dignity and prowess." El País, Madrid

Invited by Mikhail Baryshnikov in 2007 to dance at the Baryshnikov Art Centre, Pagés began the creation of AUTORRETRATO (Self Portrait), the show with which she is making her Toronto debut. Baryshnikov had asked for a personal performance, one that depicted both the dancer and the woman. Pagés discovered they were one in the same, "The truth of the matter is that dance is the only medium that I have found to get to know myself."

AUTORRETRATO has since received the Award for Best Show at the 15th Flamenco Biennial, Seville, 2008, and the Audience Prize for Best Show at the 13th Annual Jerez Festival, 2009. The company itself has been receiving accolades and awards since 1996 including the National Choreography Award ADE, the National Dance Award, and the prize for Culture from the Community of Madrid, amongst many other distinctions and honours.
