Renée Fleming is the world's most idolized and sought-after lyric soprano! Her luminous voice and compelling interpretive powers continue to touch the heartstrings of audiences in the world's great opera houses, concert venues, on television and radio and through her many award-winning CDs. After an absence of five years, she returns for her 3rd appearance on Roy Thomson Hall's International Vocal Recitals series on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 8 pm. Esteemed German pianist Hartmut Hoell accompanies Ms. Fleming in a program of songs by Handel, Dutilleux, Messiaen, Richard Strauss, and American composer John Kander. This concert is sold out.

Acclaimed by the press as "one of the truly magnificent voices of our time," American soprano Renée Fleming holds an exceptional position among the world's great singers. The late Sir Georg Solti described the impact of her singing, saying, "Quite apart from the sheer lyrical beauty of her voice, she has an innate musicianship which makes every performance a great joy." Whether performing her signature role of the Contessa in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro or singing a wickedly warm and jazzy tune, Ms. Fleming's freshness and purity of tone together with her exceptional musical intelligence and grace, continue to enchant audiences worldwide.

Highlights of her current season include performances of Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia at Washington National Opera (conducted by Plácido Domingo) and Massenet's Thaïs and Dvorák's Rusalka at New York's Metropolitan Opera. She appears at galas for the symphony orchestras of Edmonton, Portland and Milwaukee, as well as European tours with Orchestre National de France and Orchestre de Paris. Her recitals across North America include Rice University, Vanderbilt University, Denison University, Boston's Symphony Hall, and Toronto's Roy Thomson Hall. Ms. Fleming's 2008-09 season concludes with performances of Verdi's La traviata at Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Among Ms. Fleming's numerous international awards are Sweden's Polar Music Prize (2008); the Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur by the French government (2005); Honorary Membership in the Royal Academy of Music (2003); and a 2003 Honorary Doctorate from The Juilliard School. A two-time Grammy winner and nine-time Grammy nominated artist, Ms. Fleming's most recent CD, Strauss: Four Last Songs, conducted by Christian Thielemann, was released in fall 2008; and in 2007 Decca released two DVDs featuring Ms. Fleming in Los Angeles Opera's production of La traviata and Metropolitan Opera's HD Live Eugene Onegin. Her CD entitled Homage - The Age of the Diva, released in 2006, is comprised of rarely-heard works associated with legendary singers of the past. In recent years she has recorded everything from Strauss' complete opera Daphne to the jazz recording Haunted Heart, and the movie soundtrack of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Her recording honors range from the 2006 Echo Award for Strauss' Daphne to the Prix Maria Callas Orphée d'Or by the Académie du Disque Lyric for TDK's DVD production of Capriccio. http://www.reneefleming.com/
