One Night Only: Top Indie Theatre Companies Compete For #ShakesbeersShowdown Heavyweight Champion
All great Shakespearean actors start somewhere...Ours come from the bar.
Spur-of-the-Moment Shakespeare Collective is proud to present the sixth annual Shakesbeers Showdown: Volume 6 April 30th, 2017 at 918 Bathurst!
Toronto's hottest indie Shakespeare companies face-off in a battle of winner-takes-all, loser-drinks-most, as contestants cold read scenes from Shakespeare's notoriously-hard-to-read First Folio. The winner is crowned the revered Shakesbeers Showdown Heavyweight Champion (complete with championship belt), and the losers...get a lot of beer.
Featuring artists from:
Spur-Of-The-Moment Shakespeare Collective
Shakey-Shake and Friends
Dauntless City Theatre
Shakespeare At Play
Wolf Manor Theatre Collective
Lower Ossington Theatre
This year's competition will feature artists such as Danny Ghantous (Factory Theatre's A Line in The Sand) (repping Shakespeare In The Ruff), Joshua Stodart (Cole Lewis' Antigonick) and Tom McGee (Theatre Brouhaha's Late Night) (repping Shakey-Shake and Friends), with sports commentary provided by Kat Letwin (Theatre Brouhaha's Late Night).
A boisterous good time for audience and performers alike, The Shakesbeers Showdown is a celebration of Shakespeare, indie theatre, and all fans of a good, healthy (ridiculous) competition. All proceeds go towards the Shakespeare-In-Hospitals 2017 Program. The project is set to embark on its 2017 tour this fall, bringing Shakespeare to the common rooms and bedsides of hospitals and shelters throughout Toronto.
So grab a pint and raise your voice to support your favourite team...because trust us, they're gonna need it!
