MTC 09-10 Season Kicks Off With 5 O'CLOCK BELLS at Tom Hendry Theatre

By:

The 2009/10 season at the Manitoba Theatre Centre opens with thecritically acclaimed 5 O'C LOCK B ELLS at the Tom Hendry Theatre from October 8 to 24.

Written andperformed by Sleeping Dog Theatre artistic director Pierre Brault, 5 O'C LOCK B ELLS sold out its originalthree-week run in Ottawa just three days after opening, was nominated for two Capital Critics' Awards and awarded Rideau Awards for Best Actor and Best New Creation.

Winnipeg legend Lenny Breau was a brilliant musical innovator who revolutionized the approach to the guitar and whose influence is still keenly felt, stretching from country to rock to flamenco and especially jazz. 5 O'C LOCK B ELLS navigates Lenny's dance with genius and the childlike innocence that left him vulnerable to dark forces.

The voices of those closest to him harmonize to reveal the conditions which shaped his life and hint at agents in his death. Lenny was found dead in a Los Angeles swimming pool in1984. His murder remains unsolved.

5 O'C LOCK B ELLS stars Pierre Brault and is led by Director Brian Quirt. The artistic team features Set and Costume Designer BrIan Smith, Lighting Designer Martin Conboy, Guitarist and Musical ConsultantPaul Bordeau, Producer and Stage Manager Judi Pearl, and Sound Engineer Jon Carter.

Ticket prices for 5 O'C LOCK B ELLS range from $13.65 to $40.95, including GST. Students with valid highschool ID receive 50% off single ticket adult prices for all performances.
