Luminato Festival 2013 Reveals ONE THOUSAND SPECULATIONS Tonight

By:

Luminato Festival will reveal ONE THOUSAND SPECULATIONS at approximately 8pm tonight, at the Hub at David Pecaut Square, to officially launch the 7th Annual Luminato Festival.

Candian artist Michel de Broin has been in Toronto all week working to prepare the installation of his ONE THOUSAND SPECULATIONS, a 7.9 metre in diameter ball made up one 1000 mirrors. The ball will be raised 24 metres (80 feet) high above the ground of David Pecaut Square each night of the Festival, to create a starry sky, despite the abundance of artifical light, in an urban setting!
"It has always been my vision that the Luminato Festival should transform the way people see and experience this city. I think that Michel de Broin's idea for "One Thousand Speculations" hits that vision on the head and even transcends it," said Jorn Wesibrodt, Luminato Festival Artistic Director. "The largest mirror ball in the world will make Toronto dazzle and spin in its thousands of reflections for the duration of Luminato. I don't think that any Torontonian will have seen David Pecaut Square in this kind of light. It will be sexy, seductive, exhilarating and will amaze anyone from 4 to 104 years old. I am so excited to finally reveal it and light it up."
The presentation of this spectacular artwork at Luminato is dedicated to Festival Co-Founder David Pecaut. "We are proud to honour him with an annual artistic tribute in recognition of his many contributions to enriching the city for all Torontonians", saidJanice Price, Luminato Festival CEO.

Tony Gagliano, Luminato Festival Chair and Co-Founder added, "How fitting that this season's artwork dedicated to my partner in the Luminato Festival vision is titled "One Thousand Speculations". David was a dreamer, who was able to bring fantastic visions to life for the betterment of so many in the region. I am particularly delighted that this thrilling installation is located at the Square that bears his name."
The Hub at David Pecaut Square has taken on a key role as the Festival's heart, open daily from June 14 through 23. The Hub feature a wide breadth of programming including free concerts from an international spectrum of artists and musicians, Lunchtime Illuminations with leading edge artists and cultural commentators, as well as a new stream of performative events with; Kid Koala and Space Cadet, a dj-concert-video-comic book-olefactory experience; Dance Lhasa Danse with a moving tribute to singer-sonwriter Lhasa de Sela; and late night performance art with the German art collective Gob Squad.
The Hub at David Pecaut Square is also the site of the licensed Luminato Lounge featuring Caplansky's, Per Se, and Buster's Sea Cove Food Trucks presenting edible treats for lunch and dinner, adding a culinary note to the wide range of Hub programming
