LUNCHTIME LIVE! Returns to Yonge-Dundas Square!

By:

September is all about back to school, sweater season, and the return of Toronto's favourite midday soundtrack, Lunchtime Live! at YONGE-DUNDAS SQUARE (YDS). The second set of free lunch hour programming features a variety of international and Canadian artists every Monday from 12:30-1:30pm from September 4 to October 2, 2017.

On Monday, September 4, Lunchtime Live! starts strong with a charged performance from Brazilian ex-pat Bruno Capinan. Exploring the intersections of homophobia and racism, Capinan effortlessly weaves his political statement through the samba, bossa nova, and Tropicália influences in his music.

On Monday, September 11, Filipino duo, DATU, reinvent tradition with their culturally transcending music and movement-based storytelling to create a brand-new sound for Toronto's diverse cultural community. Their electronic-tribal music combines the traditional with contemporary to deliver a fresh take on the alt-world genre.

On Monday, September 18, the urban Latin ensemble, Santerías, will spice up the lunch hour in the Square. Collectively, they represent a cultural fusion of dance and music and will have audiences feeling the flamenco funk at their desk for the rest of the afternoon.

On Monday, September 25, YDS gets jazzy with Ori Dagan who was born to swing, scat, and croon. The dynamic jazz musician takes the stage with his velvety voice to entertain Toronto with good old-fashioned jazz standards and modern pop songs with his own funky spin.

On Monday, October 2, Lunchtime Live! wraps up its season with an Indigenous showcase featuring Mimi O'Bonsawin and Missy Knott. O'Bonsawin's music is nourished with appreciation and respect for her Native and French-Canadian heritage, and Knott's fun and fresh music has taken her performances to unexpected levels, including to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
