JaybiRD Productions will present Oleanna by David Mamet, its inaugural production, at the Red Sandcastle Theatre, beginning a two-week run on November 15, 2012. Written by David Mamet, the provocative American playwright (plays include GlenGarry Glenn Ross and Sexual Perversity in Chicago), Oleanna is a riveting two-hander that pits a college professor against his student, male against female, entitlement against lack, and intellectualism against simplicity creating a divide so great that there seems no way for these two to hope to understand one another. And they never do.

Oleanna is produced and directed by Jacqui Burke, starring Jacqui Skeete as Carol and James R. Woods as John. Fight direction is by Christopher Mott of Rapier Wit. The play also features an original adaptation of Oleanna, a folk song which mocks the dream of a utopian world, by OxfordTown, a local electronic alternative rock band.

JaybiRD Productions is a year-old community theatre company established, in part, to produce edgier plays that offer community theatre artists a chance to tackle more challenging work.

Oleanna will run November 15-17 at 8pm, November 18 at 2pm, and November 22-24 at 8pm at the Red Sandcastle Theatre, 922 Queen Street East (at Logan). Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for students and seniors (plus any applicable handling charges.) Tickets can be reserved by calling the Box Office at 416-845-9411 or visiting www.jaybirdproductions.ca.
