Review: DEATH AND THE MAIDEN at National Centre for Performing Arts Mumbai
India: Richa Das • May 18, 2026
There is something deeply contrarian about stepping out on a very very hot summer day to watch a very very serious play - I am beginning to think summers belong to humor. Winters can allow some pondering and occasional deep-dives into the horrors of the past. Despite looking for joy, I wound up catching an early evening production of Death and the Maiden at Mumbai’s NCPA, directed by NCPA head Bruce Guthrie, starring Ira Dubey, Neil Bhoopalam and Vivek Gomber.

20-year-old Sophie Sheridan grew up not knowing who her father was. Determined to find out, she snoops through her mother’s diary for answers. What Sophie finds scandalizes and delights her: there are three different men who could be her dad. Eager to solve the mystery, she invites them to her upcoming wedding – without telling her mom. Review: THE FOOL'S GUIDE ... TO LIVING AND DYING ... at Drama Factory
South Africa: Kim R2 • May 18, 2026
Buckland's entire body of work since the 80s argues that comedy is not a lower art form. THE FOOL'S GUIDE makes that case again, with a nuanced knack.

Review: HIGHER THAN RAINBOWS, 110% WIZARD, and YOUNGER US at The Orlando Fringe Festival
Orlando: Benoit Teves • May 18, 2026
Day two of the festival brings us a not-so-high-school-musical, a magician's beef with American Airlines, and a ghost of parties past.
Review: HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH at New Conservatory Theatre Center
Review: HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH at New Conservatory Theatre Center
San Francisco / Bay Area: Steve Murray • May 18, 2026
This production is a touch bittersweet – it’s NCTC Founder Ed Decker’s last programed show after passing the baton to new Artistic Director Ben Villegas Randle. His choice to present Hedwig is extremely prescient in a time where sexual identity is being both vilified and explored.
Review: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at Paramount Theatre
Review: THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA at Paramount Theatre
Seattle: Shelley Dean • May 18, 2026
It’s almost unbelievable for me to admit that this was my first time seeing The Phantom of the Opera. Of course, I knew the iconic songs and had seen countless clips over the years, but experiencing the production live on stage for the first time was entirely different, haunting, and spine-chilling in the best way possible. From the chandelier drop to the monumental set pieces, the show truly lives up to its legendary reputation. The 2026 tour, directed by Harold Prince, serves as a revitalized version of the original production, featuring Maria Björnson’s iconic designs, musical staging, and choreography by Gillian Lynne. It is absolutely ravishing, and Seattle audiences are lining up hours early to witness the spectacle for themselves.
Review: OUTSIDE MULLINGAR at Theatre Artists Studio
Review: OUTSIDE MULLINGAR at Theatre Artists Studio
Phoenix: Herbert Paine • May 18, 2026
There are productions that succeed because the script is strong, and productions that succeed because performers manage to elevate familiar material. Theatre Artists Studio’s production of John Patrick Shanley’s OUTSIDE MULLINGAR achieves something rarer: a complete unity of tone, performance, language, and emotional truth.
Review: THE SHEPHERD'S HUT at State Theatre Centre
Review: THE SHEPHERD'S HUT at State Theatre Centre
Australia - Perth: David Bravos • May 18, 2026
Adapting Tim Winton for the stage is a notorious tightrope walk. His prose is so deeply rooted in the heavy, breathing expanse of the Western Australian landscape that stripping it down to fit between three theatre walls always risks losing the very magic that makes his books work.
Review: MJ - DAS MUSICAL at Stage Theater An Der Elbe
Review: MJ - DAS MUSICAL at Stage Theater An Der Elbe
Germany: Konstantin Georgiou • May 18, 2026

Review: BACK TO THE FUTURE at Broadway Sacramento
Sacramento: Courtney Symes • May 17, 2026
Great Scott! Our 1985 memories have zoomed into town on the back of the much-anticipated tour of Back to the Future: The Musical. Based on the hit motion picture, the bones are the same: small-town dreamer Marty McFly is accidentally sent back in time by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown, where one wrong move could erase his future forever. The National Tour brings the nostalgia, packed with energy and jaw-dropping spectacle, to Broadway Sacramento for a limited time.
Review: THE QUEEN'S NANNY at Pumphouse Theatre
Review: THE QUEEN'S NANNY at Pumphouse Theatre
New Zealand: Monica Moore • May 17, 2026
What did our critic think of THE QUEEN'S NANNY at Pumphouse Theatre. Tadpole Theatre Productions has delivered a finely crafted and absorbing season of a play that deserves attention. This New Zealand premiere feels timely, entertaining and quietly devastating. With excellent performances, clever direction from Simon Prast, an integrated and effective set, and a script of real quality from Melanie Tait, The Queen’s Nanny is a thoroughly worthwhile night at the theatre.
