There is something deeply contrarian about stepping out on a very very hot summer day to watch a very very serious play - I am beginning to think summers belong to humor. Winters can allow some pondering and occasional deep-dives into the horrors of the past. Despite looking for joy, I wound up catching an early evening production of Death and the Maiden at Mumbai’s NCPA, directed by NCPA head Bruce Guthrie, starring Ira Dubey, Neil Bhoopalam and Vivek Gomber.

Great Scott! Our 1985 memories have zoomed into town on the back of the much-anticipated tour of Back to the Future: The Musical. Based on the hit motion picture, the bones are the same: small-town dreamer Marty McFly is accidentally sent back in time by his eccentric scientist friend Doc Brown, where one wrong move could erase his future forever. The National Tour brings the nostalgia, packed with energy and jaw-dropping spectacle, to Broadway Sacramento for a limited time.
What did our critic think of THE QUEEN'S NANNY at Pumphouse Theatre. Tadpole Theatre Productions has delivered a finely crafted and absorbing season of a play that deserves attention. This New Zealand premiere feels timely, entertaining and quietly devastating. With excellent performances, clever direction from Simon Prast, an integrated and effective set, and a script of real quality from Melanie Tait, The Queen’s Nanny is a thoroughly worthwhile night at the theatre.
