A stunning mixed bill featuring Emergence a world-premiere choreographed by Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela alongside the first ever Australian presentation of a work by young Swedish choreographer Alexander Ekman with the audience hit Cacti.
Rafael has a passion for working collaboratively and Emergence is no different. Sydney Dance Company has commissioned the internationally acclaimed darling of the indie Australian music scene, singer-songwriter Sarah Blasko and composer Nick Wales, with whom he previously collaborated on 2 One Another in 2012, to create the soundtrack for this new work and the stunning dancers of the ensemble will be wearing costumes designed by Australian fashion star Dion Lee.
Sydney Dance Company's presentation of Cacti will be the Australian Premiere of Alexander Ekman's work. At just 28, Ekman has already created work for such contemporary dance icons as Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT), Cullberg Ballet, Gothenburg Ballet and Cedar Lake. Cacti premiered in 2010 for NDT in The Hague before touring Europe and the UK. It was an instant hit for its irreverent take on contemporary dance, joyfulness, intelligence and fun and our dancers are looking forward to performing it.
