The Sydney Art Quartet Presents Concert In Celebration Of Sydney Ball The Sydney Art Quartet is presenting a concert in celebration of the great Australian contemporary artist, Sydney Ball (1933-2017) - the pioneer of large scale abstract painting in Australia.

Planned in consultation with Ball's life partner, fellow artist Lynne Eastaway, the concert takes place at Sullivan + Strumpf on the last day of INFINITEX V, Sydney's final and never before seen body of work.

Classical music was in constant use as a counterpoint and inspiration to Ball's daily creative process.

'It was a privilege to visit Syd's Glenn Murcutt designed studio and see the role music played in his creative life', says SAQ Artistic Director James Beck. 'I was impressed by the discernment and beauty of Syd's record collection, it shows he loved music and knew what he was listening to - which was only the best'.

The Sydney Art Quartet is a virtuosic string quartet, giving electrifying performances that playfully sidestep routine, cliche and orthodoxy. Currently the ensemble in residence at the Yellow House Kings Cross (former creative comune of Brett Whiteley, Peter Weir & Martin Sharpe), the Sydney Art Quartet produces intimate, multi-sensory works that shine fresh light on great music and the hearts and minds that created it.
