Grammy Award Winning Singer Returns To Sydney Symphony Orchestra

Two-time Grammy award winning singer, Anne Sofie Von Otter, will perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra for the first time in seven years when she sings orchestral versions of the Schubert song repertoire at the Sydney Opera House (22-24 March), alongside guest conductor Donald Runnicles.

The internationally acclaimed mezzo-soprano, who critics have described as possessing "a rare gift" (Washington Post, 2016), made her debut with the SSO in 2011.

"I am thrilled to be back in Australia and in Sydney with its wonderful setting and awesome Opera House," says von Otter.

Speaking about the program, von Otter describes the Schubert pieces as "beautiful songs, they're all very different in character but equally wonderful. For instance, Die Forelle (The Trout) shows Schubert's inimitable lightness and charm, An Sylvia has a sensual groove, and then there's the dramatic Erlkönig with which we end this selection of Schubert songs."

The renowned Schubert interpreter is known for her genre-spanning work, ranging from classical opera to contemporary works, such as her 2010 collaboration with pop legend Elvis Costello. At the 2018 Adelaide Festival, von Otter performed a recital which included an eclectic program of Swedish folk-inspired songs, Schubert, Paul Simon and ABBA, among other works. InDaily hailed the concert as a "landmark musical performance of this year's Adelaide Festival", noting that the singer "has a reputation for being able to do it all and she only enhanced her legend last night in a wide-ranging, at times genuinely heartbreaking, program..."
