David Wenham Joins The Sydney Art Quartet In Concert This Month

David Wenham, one of Australia's most respected actors & the star of Lion, 300, Van Helsing, Lord of the Rings & Pirates of the Caribbean joins the Sydney Art Quartet for a series of thrilling concerts this August.

David Wenham's dramatic retelling of Leo Tolstoy's The Kreutzer Sonata, accompanied by music from the legendary Czech composer Leos? Jana?c?ek is sure to be the climax of Words Are Weapons.

"Tolstoy's Kreutzer Sonata describes a crime of passion", says Artistic Director James Beck. "It was instantly banned in both Russia & the USA when published in 1890, and Tolstoy himself branded a sexual moral pervert by President Theodore Roosevelt - how times have changed". Indeed, now widely regarded as one of the greatest authors of all time, Tolstoy's semi-autobiographical works are cited as pinnacles of realist fiction.

In Words Are Weapons, David Wenham's readings will be paired to live scores, creating a one-off combination for audiences. Readings from Music & Silence by Rose Tremain and An Equal Music by Vikram Seth set to music by Ravel, Schubert & Haydn will complete the program.

"People coming to hear us say they cannot find the kind of intensely personal experiences we create anywhere else', says Artistic Director James Beck. With only three performances, tickets will be tightly held.

Since 2016 the Sydney Art Quartet has created bespoke performance experiences at the historic Yellow House Potts Point. Attracting an audience described as 'the envy of the arts scene', previous projects have included collaborations with Saskia Havekes and Grandiflora in The Flower Whisperer, Carlos Huber and Arquiste Fragrance House in Scent of Memory and multi-award winning painter Wendy Sharpe in Butt Naked Salon.
