The Friends of The Sheldon present Randy Newman, Friday, February 25, 2011 at 8 p.m. for the Winter Friends' Benefit concert. Proceeds from this special evening benefit Sheldon educational programs, which serve over 20,000 St. Louis area students each year.

With a sardonic wit and tongue-in-cheek look at modern society, Academy Award-winning pianist, composer and singer Randy Newman has become one of today's most respected social satirists. From hits such as "Short People" and "I Love L.A.," to original movie soundtracks for "Monsters Inc.," "Seabiscuit," "The Natural," "Cars," "Toy Story" and more, the sharp-witted performer combines pop, rock, R&B and blues music to create a sound all his own. In 2008, he released Harps and Angels for Nonesuch records, his first collection of new songs since 1999's Bad Love. Most recently, Newman wrote the songs and score for Disney's The Princess and the Frog as well as Toy Story 3, both of which were nominated for the 2010 Grammy Awards.

In addition to winning an Academy Award, Newman is the recipient of two Emmy Awards, five Grammy Awards and the Governor's Award from the Recording Academy. Newman was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002, on June 2, 2010 Newman received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
