St. Louis' Insight Theatre Company Invited to Participate in Racial Conflict Conference

By:

Insight Theatre Company, now entering its 10th season, has been invited to present one of its recent successful productions at an important conference on racial conflict resolution. Insight will mount a production of excerpts from Spinning Into Butter, from their 2015 season, at "Breaking Through Shades of Color: Transforming Race Relations & Conflicts" on November 4, 2016.

This fifth annual conference will be held at Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey -Center of Conflict Studies. This conference builds on the Conference on Race Conflicts, held in 2015, and is intended to promote an exchange of ideas and experiences on dealing with race conflicts and strategies to transform these conflicts and existing race relations.

"We are thrilled to be selected to perform our production of Spinning into Butter and participate in talk backs on Issues about racial tension and conflict. The great opportunity reflects our mission of offering relevant "INSIGHT" into important issues of today," Maggie Ryan, Artistic Director, Insight Theatre Company.

Set on a Vermont College campus, Spinning Into Butter explores racism in America today. The playwright presents ideas about race relations as we see a liberal dean of students, Sarah Daniels, investigate racist comments written to one of the college's few African American students. As a result, Sarah, along with other faculty members and students, explore their own personal ideas about racism leading to surprising discoveries and insights. Members of Insight will also be participation in talk-backs after the show.
