Orange Girls presents David Lindsay-Abaire's comedy Wonder of the World Sept. 25 - Oct. 11

ST. LOUIS -The Orange Girls Theatre company wraps up its 2009 season with the journey of a seemingly stereotypical housewife as she attempts to rewrite the story of her life in David Lindsay-Abaire's screwball comedy Wonder of the World, presented September 25 through October 11 at COCA's Anheuser-Busch Black Box Theater.

When Cass walks out of her fairytale marriage to pursue the life she thinks she missed out on, she never expects to end up in the honeymoon capital of the world with a suicidal sidekick, a lonely boat captain, and a hapless pair of private detectives. As her slapstick journey of self-discovery takes one dizzying turn after another, Cass begins to realize that she alone will determine whether or not she gets her happy ending.

The Orange Girls' production of Wonder of the World stars Orange Girls co-founder and Kevin Kline Award winner Brooke Edwards alongside Charlie Barron, Kirsten Wylder, Kelley Ryan, Greg Johnston, Mary Schnitzler and Actors' Equity Association member and Kevin Kline Award winner Christopher Hickey. The production is directed by Deanna Jent.

Wonder of the World will also be the company's last production for the foreseeable future. Co-founders Brooke Edwards, Michelle Hand and Meghan Maguire have decided not to present a 2010 season, and Orange Girls will go on hiatus following the close of Wonder of the World.

"Life is taking each of us in different directions as mothers, artists and professionals," says Orange Girls Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director Brooke Edwards. "Meghan, Michelle and I are very proud of the company's accomplishments, and we've had the privilege to work with incredible artists and theatre professionals to produce women-focused stories that may not have otherwise been seen by St. Louis' audiences. We are tremendously grateful for all the support Orange Girls has received from COCA, our board, our patrons, our donors and the community."

Since its successful debut in 2005 with Going to See the Elephant, the Orange Girls have received several honors in the community, including 14 Kevin Kline nominations and four Kevin Kline Awards for Outstanding Production of a Play, Leading Actress, Supporting Actress and Ensemble.

"The close of this chapter of the Orange Girls is due to the new directions of our co-artistic directors and not to a lack of financial support from the St. Louis community," said board member Tom Wickersham. "I'm very honored to have been a part of this organization that has made such a tremendous mark on theatre in St. Louis."

The Orange Girls is a not-for-profit theater company dedicated to redefining women's roles on stage and in the world. Founded in 2005 by local actresses Brooke Edwards, Michelle Hand and Meghan Maguire, the company has brought together actors, directors and designers of both sexes to create performances that garner a new audience for women's contributions to the theatrical arts.
