Gallery Opening and Reception:

Timothy Hutchings
Opening and Reception
Friday September 25, 6:00-8:00p (artist talk at 6:30p)

St. Louis born, New York-based artist Timothy Hutchings creates interactive sculpture that playfully muses history and technology, abstraction and site. "Those Were Basements" is a gigantic play surfaces for table top wargames,  available for public use.  From the early days of Kriegspiel and H.G. Wells' Little Wars, wargames using miniature soldiers have been a hobby embodying a combination of art, craft, and strategic skill.

"Those Were Basements" is a single sprawling wargame table, covered with a gently rolling grassy landscape, based on the area round COCA. "Obtangle #1" is an installation in the courtyard adjoining the Millstone Gallery. Hutchings has shown his work in New York, Vienna, Sydney, Barcelona, Los Angeles, and Miami.

Exhibit runs through January 10.
