Columbia Children's Theatre (CCT), the Midlands only professional theatre for families and young audiences is thrilled to present Columbia's NiA Company and their production of Br'er Rabbit October 18 - 20. Show times are Friday at 7:00 p.m.; Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and 7:00 p.m.; and Sunday at 3:00 p.m. All shows are held at Columbia Children's Theatre on the 2nd level of Richland Mall, 3400 Forest Drive. Tickets are $12.00 for children three years of age through adult and $10.00 for seniors and active military with ID. The 7:00 p.m. performance on Saturday evening will have a special price of $6.00 for everyone. Advance tickets can be purchased online at www.columbiachildrenstheatre.com. This titillating and seductive production is a study of the politics of sex and power that is guaranteed to charm and mesmerize. Venus in Fur opens on the Thigpen Main Stage on Friday, November 8th at 8:00pm, and runs through November 16th, 2013. This is a limited run so patrons are encouraged to get their tickets early. Marjorie Barnes, internationally known jazz and Broadway performer and former member of The 5th Dimension is back by popular demand to perform an exclusive benefit concert for Trustus Theatre accompanied by the renowned Dick Goodwin and his fabulous Big Band sound. This special concert event will benefit Trustus Theatre. Marjorie Barnes and Dick Goodwin and his Big Band perform November 19 and 20, 2013 on the Trustus Main Stage. The newly named Richard and Debbie Cohn Trustus Side Door Theatre is opening its season with last season's smash hit 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche. This unique show that was born from sketch comedy in Chicago comes back to Columbia with the original all-star Trustus cast. The show opens Friday October 11th, at 8:00pm in the Richard and Debbie Cohn Trustus Side Door Theatre, and runs through Saturday October 26th, 2013. Since the show sold out very quickly in January, patrons are encouraged to make reservations early.

The Dock Street Theatre is a stunning jewel box set in the heart of downtown Charleston. Built on the site of a colonial era theatre, it is the home of Charleston Stage and its professional resident acting company made up primarily of young and energetic recent college graduates. Now in its 36th season, the company produces a full season of (mostly) family-friendly plays with a hefty dose of musical comedies. As its season opener, Charleston Stage mounted a spirited but uneven production of 9 TO 5: THE MUSICAL.

Located on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, The Arts Center of Coastal Carolina produces a full season of musicals and plays aimed at a dedicated audience of Lowcountry residents. The productions, which include crowd-pleasing favorites suggested by theatre-goers, feature fully professional casts drawn primarily from New York, along with a sprinkling of local performers. On a stormy Sunday afternoon, I joined several hundred patrons in attendance at the Center's production of CHICAGO, directed and choreographed by Russell Garrett, to enjoy a high quality rendering of the 1920s-era musical.
