Trustus Theatre is bringing the new musical See Rock City & Other Destinations to the Midlands. This Drama Desk Award winner for outstanding musical, book, and lyrics will take audiences on a journey across the country and will dive into the depths of human discovery as a talented ensemble cast brings this show to life on the Thigpen Main Stage. See Rock City & Other Destinations opens on Friday March 14th at 8pm and runs through April 5th, 2014.

See Rock City & Other Destinations is a contemporary musical about connections missed and made at tourist destinations across America. A wanderer believes his destiny is written on rooftops along the North Carolina Interstate. A young man yearns to connect with intelligent life in Roswell, New Mexico. A woman at the Alamo steps out of the shadow of her grandparents' idealized romance to take a chance on love. Three estranged sisters cruise to Glacier Bay to scatter their father's ashes. Two high school boys face unexpected fears in the Coney Island Spook House. A terrified bride-to-be ponders taking the leap - over Niagara Falls. With a score that incorporates pop, rock, folk and more, each story builds on the last to create a vivid travelogue of Americans learning to overcome their fears and expectations in order to discover connection.

Artistic Director Dewey Scott-Wiley knew that See Rock City & Other Destinations would be a great fit for Trustus. "Different friends in New York were telling me to check out this musical," said Scott-Wiley. "They said it had amazing heart, and the best contemporary-rock score they had heard in years. Broadwayworld.com called it the best rock score since RENT. After doing some research and listening to the score, I knew this show was special and that we should produce it."

Scott-Wiley gathered a talented cast of well-known musical talents in the Capital City for this production. Trustus Company members Kevin Bush (Ragtime), Linda Posey Collins (Smokey Joe's Café), Vicky Saye Henderson (Ragtime), Matthew DeGuire ([title of show]), and Kendrick Marion (Ain't Misbehavin') return to the Thigpen Main Stage to join this vibrant ensemble. Popular actors Caroline Weidner (Love, Loss, and What I Wore), Kyle Collins (Assassins), and Chase Nelson (Next To Normal) round out the cast. Undoubtedly these incredible voices will bring dynamic performances to the Vista.

The tunes and the stories of See Rock City & Other Destinations are uplifting. "This show is filled with hope," said Director Scott-Wiley. "After every rehearsal I feel refreshed in some way...like I have experienced something incredibly healing. I anticipate that audiences will be moved by not only the incredible music, but the stories and the storytelling in this piece. It is my hope that people will feel like the musical took them on a really rewarding journey. Consider it a great two hour vacation." With all of the weather fluctuations here in the Capital City, Columbia audiences are certainly in need of a vacation. Trustus Theatre is happy to provide them with one.
