Herbie Hancock to Play the Peace Center 6/2

By:

Herbie Hancock will visit Greenville, SC for a performance at the Peace Center on June 2, 2011.

Herbie Hancock is a true icon of modern music. Throughout his artistic explorations, he has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining his unmistakable voice. In addition to being recognized as a legendary pianist and composer, his illustrious career includes an Academy Award for his Round Midnight film score and 14 Grammy Awards, including 2008's Album of the Year.

There are few artists in the music industry who have had more influence on acoustic and electronic jazz, R&B and modern rock. Many of his compositions, including "Canteloupe Island," "Maiden Voyage," "Watermelon Man," "Chameleon," and "Rockit" are contemporary standards that have had a profound effect on all styles of modern music. Now in his fifth decade as a performing artist, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: in the forefront of world culture, technology and music. Though one can't track exactly where he will go next, he is sure to leave his inimitable imprint wherever he lands.

Tickets will go on-sale to the public Friday, April 15, 2011. Please call the Peace Center Box Office or visit www.peacecenter.org. Tickets are $35, $45, $55.

And DON'T FORGET- On Saturday April 23, the Peace Center will hold special screenings (7pm and 9pm) of the critically-acclaimed documentary THE PROMISE: THE MAKING OF DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN, about the making of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's fourth and defining album. These screenings, featuring high-definition and digital sound, represent the theatrical premiere of the film.
Directed by Grammy- and Emmy-winning filmmaker Thom Zimny, THE PROMISE has received a rapturous critical response around the world, including at the 2010 Toronto, BFI London, and International Rome Film Festivals.

Thanks to the generosity of Emerging Pictures and Sony Music, all proceeds from this fundraising event will support the Peace Center's community outreach programs.

Tickets are $25, and go on-sale to the public on Friday, April 8th. Peace Center donors and subscribers can buy tickets beginning Monday, April 4th.

Bruce Springsteen's "The Promise: The Making of Darkness On The Edge of Town", a ninety-minute documentary, combines never-before-seen footage of Springsteen and the E Street Band shot between 1976 and 1978, including home rehearsals and studio sessions with new interviews with Springsteen, E Street Band members, manager Jon Landau, former-manager Mike Appel, and others closely involved in the making of the record.
