2010 New Play Festival Hosts A Strange Disappearance of Bees Tonight
Don't miss the second offering of our 2010 New Play this evening, Tuesday, October 19th: A Strange Disappearance of Bees by Elena Hartwell. Festival admission is free and open to the public. Tonight's reading will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by an in-depth discussion of the work (audience feedback is encouraged after each reading), led by festival chairman, Dr. Brian Haimbach and playwright-in-residence, Deborah Brevoort.
A Strange Disappearance of Bees takes place inside a bakery in a small, rural community. Beginning in the present, the play spans nearly thirty years through an interweaving of the past and present. Traumatic events ripple through time, affecting not just those at ground zero, but also those that are left behind. This powerful character study investigates the complexity of human relationships, the unfolding disaster of disappearing bees, and the nature of love.
Please note, A Strange Disappearance of Bees is for mature audiences only.
A Strange Disappearance of Bees is directed by Kerrie Seymour and Glenda ManWaring, and its cast includes Richard Beveridge, Chris Cashon, Andy Croston, Wofford Jones, Teresa McClernon and Kelly Wallace.
Elena Hartwell is a playwright, performer, director and theatrical technician. Ms. Hartwell's work has been seen across the U.S. and the U.K. Upcoming productions include an adaptation of Ivan Doig's novel, Prairie Nocturne, playing at the Book-It Repertory Theatre in Seattle, and her short play, Ahab's Wife, which will tour Seattle, New York and the U.K.
