The Notre Dame Shakespeare Festival is proud to present ShakeScenes, a free collection of Shakespeare's 'greatest hits,' today, July 18 and tomorrow, July 19 at 2:00pm at Notre Dame's historic Washington Hall. Coordinated by the Robinson Community Learning Center's Christy Burgess, each free performance offers a creative variety of ten-minute scenes that are sure to delight the entire family.

South Bend Civic Theatre presents the frantic comedy The Explorers Club, today, June 12-28, 2015 in the Warner Theatre, 403 N. Main Street, in South Bend. Set in 1879 London, the prestigious Explorers Club members face an imminent crisis: their bartender is nowhere to be found. Well, that and their acting president wants to admit a woman to their distinguished membership of scientists. The candidate is beautiful, smart and the discoverer of a lost tribe, having brought back a member of the tribe for display. The decision to accept her could shake the foundations of the British Empire and worse, threaten cigars and brandy time at the club! What will the members do at this most difficult crisis in their three-hundred year history? Why, order more drinks, of course! An inspired, uproarious farce by Nell Benjamin.

Morris Performing Arts Center Wins 2015 Prime Sites Award

The Morris Performing Arts Center, South Bend, Indiana, was awarded a "2015 Prime Site Award" by Facilities & Event Management national magazine.  Award winners will be announced in the Facilities & Event Management SuperBook to be published in July 2015.   The Prime Site awards are voted on by over 10,000 people in the entertainment industry - booking agents, promoters, talent buyers and special event planners.  The Morris has been awarded the coveted "Prime Site" designation for ten consecutive years from 2006-2015.

One of the masterworks by legendary playwright Tennessee Williams steams up South Bend Civic Theatre in May. In the play, Big Daddy Pollitt, the richest cotton planter in the Mississippi Delta, is about to celebrate his 65th birthday. He is distressed by the rocky relationship between his beloved son Brick, an aging football hero who has turned to drink, and his beautiful and feisty wife Maggie. As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of Southern gentility slips away as unpleasant truths emerge and greed, lies and suppressed sexuality reach a boiling point. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1955 and is among Tennessee Williams' most popular plays.

This past Wednesday and Thursday, South Bend was graced with the National Tour of "Beauty and the Beast" presented by NETworks. By far one of the best Disney animated films of its time, "Beauty and the Beast" presents the tale of a princess who is smart, confident, and doesn't need saved by Prince Charming. With a more mature theme and characters, Disney presented us with one of the best love stories of all time. "Beauty and the Beast" came roaring with beauty onto the Morris Performing Arts Center stage, and fans and audience members couldn't get enough of this stunning performance. I absolutely loved the revamped production of NETworks, "Beauty and the Beast" with direction by Rob Roth.

The MPAC Wooden Nickel Contest is open to all legal U.S. residents of the South Bend Metro area as defined by Arbitron, Inc. who are 18 years of age and older. ?Following a successful winter tour and his second season as a judge on American Idol, Harry Connick, Jr. announced today a 20+ city summer concert tour that will include a stop at Morris Performing Arts Center in South Bend on Thursday, July 30. South Bend Civic Theatre's Education program offers exciting and fun classes for youth and adults this spring. Starting the week of April 13, students will have the opportunity to engage with highly skilled and award-winning teachers to explore their creativity and talent in a variety of activities. Highlights of the session include: acting fundamentals for kindergarten through third grade, acting and musical theatre for fourth through eighth graders, playmaking and performance with an Emmy-award winning writer for high school age students, youth and adult improv with an instructor trained at Chicago's famed Second City troupe, and a performance intensive session for adults leading to a production of a one-act play or series of short plays.
