By:

Notre Dame, IN -- Tenor Paul Appleby, a frequent Metropolitan Opera performer and rising star, makes his DeBartolo Performing Arts Center Presenting Series debut in the Leighton Concert Hall tonight, March 19 at 7:30 p.m. Appleby's recital program includes Schumann, Wolf, Mozart, Berlioz and Villa-Lobos. His North American tour with pianist Ken Noda also includes recitals for Boston's Celebrity Series and at New York's Carnegie Hall. Regular tickets are $28, $15 for students ages 5 and up and are currently available online at performingarts.nd.edu/collections.

Profoundly committed to the art of song, the young tenor has already earned an impressive reputation for his expressive acting, interpretative depth and versatility and has won critical acclaim for performances of Stravinsky's Tom Rakewell (The Rake's Progress), Handel's Jonathan (Saul), Brian in Nico Muhly's Two Boys and Mozart's Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) among others. A 2005 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, The Juillard School and The Lindemann Program, Appleby has worked regularly alongside James Levine at The Metropolitan Opera, most recently as David (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg) and in the current season for his debut as Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail).

The Renaldo Ferguson Family Endowment for the Performing Arts and the Gayle A. and Steven C. Francis Endowment for Excellence generously support Appleby's performance.

Regular tickets are $28 and $15 for students ages 5 and up. Children, regardless of age, are required to have a ticket to enter the venue. For additional information on Paul Appleby's performance on Saturday, March 19 at 7:30 p.m., visit: performingarts.nd.edu/collections.
