National Players to Bring MACBETH to Lincoln Amphitheatre, 9/13-14

President Lincoln's favorite play will take the stage live on the grounds Abraham Lincoln walked as a boy in Indiana in September.

Lincoln Amphitheatre will host the National Players', America's longest running touring company, presentation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth on September 13 and 14.

Macbeth is considered one of Shakespeare's most renowned and powerful tragedies. Shakespeare wrote Macbeth in 1616. Set in Scotland, the play dramatizes the corroding psychological and political effects produced when its protagonist, the Scottish Lord Macbeth, chooses evil as a way to fulfill his ambition for power.

The National Players will perform Macbeth with original dialogue, but the directional presentation will have a more industrialized era, contemporary feel to the production.

National Players was founded in 1949 by Father Gilbert V. Hartke, OP, a prominent arts educator and then head of the Drama Department at Catholic University of America. National Players has performed in the East Wing of the White House, in Europe, Asia, and the Middle East for American military, and throughout 40 states. National Players has brought literature to life for more than 2.5 million audience members.

The 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre sits on the very grounds Abraham Lincoln walked as a boy in Indiana from the ages of seven to 21. It is home to the original outdoor drama A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale. A.Lincoln: A Pioneer Tale is a two -act musical enhanced with an original score of ten songs that entertains and educates audiences about President Lincoln's journey from an Indiana pioneer to President of the United States. Lincoln Amphitheatre is located inside Lincoln State Park, just 4 miles from Holiday World & Splashin' Safari.

The National Players will present William Shakespeare's Macbeth at the 1500-seat, covered Lincoln Amphitheatre on September 13 and 14 at 7:30 p.m. CDT. Ticket prices are $19 for adults; $16 for seniors ages 55 and older, students ages seven to 21, and military; and $6 for children ages six and under. An optional homestyle buffet meal including pot roast and baked turkey, roasted potatoes, carrots, peas, and salad is available for an additional charge to guests who reserve at least three days in advance. The dinner service begins at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
