INHERENT END Makes Cape Town Debut at Alexander Bar And Café's Upstairs Theatre
INHERENT END, a new solo show with Tamarin McGinley, directed by Kim Kerfoot and presented by the Instant Arts Collective, will premiere at the Alexander Bar and Café's Upstairs Theatre tonight. Fresh from a phase of artistic development in London, the Cape Town debut precedes what the theatre-makers hope to be an international adventure for the play. At once a reunion (between McGinley and Kerfoot, who studied theatre and performance together at the University of Cape Town), an inter-continental exploration and an experiment in storytelling and style, Cape Town audiences have the chance to see INHERENT END in the Mother City first.
A cheeky, tender, mixed-up play about misplaced affection, INHERENT END asks whether our early experiences define us forever. Stacey is only 11, but she is learning about seduction and love. A woman is hurtling towards disaster on parallel tracks of inappropriate attraction. A scientist seeking her own salvation in field of epigenetics is hunting down the genetic extent of trauma. United by circumstance, these women straddle the gaps between victim and predator, circumstance and action, innocence and guilt. Part confession, part comedy and part scientific treatise, the play questions how we affect each other, how we alter each other and how we pass on the experiences we received at the hands of others.
INHERENT END runs at the Alexander Bar and Café's Upstairs Theatre from 16-18 March at 9pm, and then from 23 March - 2 April at 7pm. Book securely online for the play with a credit card by visiting alexanderbar.co.za/show/InherentEnd, or purchase tickets in person at the bar anytime during its regular opening hours on Mondays through Saturdays between 11am and 1am.
