The Theatre Group at SBCC will start the season July 11-28, 2018 in the Garvin Theatre with the musical, GREASE.  Book, lyrics and music by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey.

Due to popular demand, Pipeline Theatre Company (Ari Schrier, Artistic Director; Natalie Gershtein, Producing Director) is proud to announce a one-week extension of the world premiere production of Folk Wandering, a new musical conceived by Jaclyn Backhaus (Men on Boats) and Andrew Neisler (Clown Bar), featuring a book by Backhaus; music by collaborating composers Blake Allen(Boston|Nebraska), Backhaus, Mike Brun (Music Director, Mr. Burns), Andrew R. Butler (Finn the Fearless), Joel Esher (PharmaBro: an American Douchical!), Alex Fast (The Drawer Boy), Jo Lampert (Joan of Arc: Into The Fire), Barrie Mclain (Hundred Days), Annie Tippe (Director, Ghost Quartet), and Dominique Toney ('Crazy Ex-Girlfriend'); and lyrics by Allen, Backhaus, Brun, Butler, Esher, Lampert, McLain, and Tippe. Andrew Neisler will direct.

The York Theatre Company presents the 1972 musical Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill:  A Musical Voyage, music by Kurt Weill, text and format by Gene Lerner, lyrics by Maxwell Anderson, Marc Blitzstein, Bertolt Brecht, Jacques Deval, Michael Feingold, Ira Gershwin, Paul Green, Langston Hughes, Alan Jay Lerner, Ogden Nash, George Tabori, and Arnold Weinstein, the second of three shows in the Winter 2017 Musicals in Mufti Series.

Broadway fans had plenty of reasons to celebrate this year, with dozens of shows having opened since January, hundreds of actors having made their debuts, and many more having returned to the stage for critically acclaimed performances. Not all news was good though, as we also suffered a loss of an incredible amount of talent. Below, BroadwayWorld sends a fond farewell to those who passed away in 2014.

Film and stage legend and two-time Tony Award winner Lauren Bacall, passed away last week (first reported by TMZ) at the age of 89. The legendary actress suffered a massive stroke and died at home (New York City's famous Dakota Building) according to a family member. BroadwayWorld remembers the legend below.

Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz's beloved coming-of-age musical comedy Pippin is currently in previews at the Music Box Theatre (239 West 45th Street). This all new production is directed by Diane Paulus featuring choreography by Chet Walker in the style of Bob Fosse and circus creation by Gypsy Snider of the Montreal-based circus company Les 7 doigts de la main (also known as 7 Fingers). The Acting Company's 40th Anniversary Ruby Ball was held on December 3, 2012 at Capitale, and James Houghton, Founding Artistic Director of the Signature Theatre and the Richard Rodgers Director of Juilliard's Drama Division, accepted the John Houseman Award recognizing his profound commitment to the development of American actors and an audience for the theater. Earl Weiner, Board Chairman of both The Acting Company and the Theater Development Fund (TDF) received the Warburg Humanitarian Award for his outstanding philanthropic endeavor and leadership. Lost in the Stars, the second Encores! production of the New York City Center season, running February 3 - 6 at City Center, will feature Chuck Cooper, Daniel Breaker, Patina Miller, Sharon Washington, Daniel Gerroll, John Douglas Thompson and Sherry Boone. Lost in the Stars has music by Kurt Weill and book and lyrics by Maxwell Anderson. It will be directed by Gary Griffin and choreographed by Chase Brock, with music direction by Rob Berman.

On Monday, November 22, Bernard Gersten, Executive Producer of Lincoln Center Theater (LCT) received the John Houseman Award for his work at Lincoln Center and as Joseph Papp's Associate Producer of The New York Shakespeare Festival (NYSF) at The Acting Company's Masquerade Gala. Tom Viola, Executive Director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA), was also honored with the Joan Warburg Humanitarian Award for his leadership and advocacy in the fight against AIDS. Kelsey Grammer and Patti LuPone entertained as Angela Lansbury, Marian Seldes, Elizabeth Wilson, Campbell Scott, Dana Ivey, Shubert's Philip Smith and Robert Wankel, Jujamcyn's Paul Libin, Equity's Nick Wyman, The Actors Fund's Joe Benecasa and The Broadway League's Charlotte St. Martin and more joined the salute. Sonnet Repertory Theatre presented their annual Benefit & Cabaret last night, November 8th. Sonnet Repertory Theatre brought together a diverse and talented group of performers and composers at Joe's Pub to honor multi Tony and Drama Desk Award-winning director Jack O'Brien. Jerry Mitchell served as the evening's host.

Theatre at the Center celebrated opening night of the musical masterpiece, Man of La Mancha on September 17 at 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Indiana. Man of La Mancha, the winner of five Tony awards including Best Musical, is directed by multi Jeff Award winner William Pullinsi and star James Harms as Don Quixote. The show will run through October 11, 2009.

The TheatreWorks USA musical production of children's story 'Nate the Great' stops at Meadow Brook Theatre Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.

The Houseman Award honors a profound commitment to the development of classical actors and an audience for the theater. The award this year was given to Theatre Development Fund. The Warburg Award is presented for outstanding philanthropic endeavor. The award was presented to William D. Zabel, Chairman of Human Rights First, by its President, Michael Posner.

The Acting Company's Macbeth and The Three Musketeers, playing in repertory through May 20th, began performances on May 9th, and BroadwayWorld was there for the celebration!
