Last night, WNET hosted its annual WNET Gala, to celebrate artists and honor patrons of the American arts community in gratitude of their continued support of emerging creatives. A who's who of stars and patrons gathered at the Plaza Hotel Monday evening to shine a spotlight on seven 2019 honorees for their contributions to the arts including two-time Tony Award-winning actor Nathan Lane, American opera singer Renee Fleming, CEO of AMC Networks Josh Sapan, artistic director and CEO of Ballet Hispanico Eduardo Vilaro, and philanthropists Jody and John Arnhold of the Arnhold Foundation, recognizing them for their outstanding work in the arts, media, and philanthropy.

The Drama League (Executive Artistic Director Gabriel Stelian-Shanks) opened DirectorFest 2019: The 35th Annual Directors Festival, the only festival in the United States exploring the art of contemporary stage directing, last evening with the musical Marry Me A Little, Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Directed by 2018 Leo Shull Musical Theatre Directing Fellow Kemar Jewel, with music direction by Josh Kight at New Ohio Theatre (154 Christopher Street). Sexy Laundry by Michele Riml, a poignant and hilarious look at the up and downs of love, marriage and the bedroom, has been a smash hit in the US, Canada, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Slovenia, Germany, Mexico, and Iceland, and in Poland it continues to run in rep with over 300 performances. Sexy Laundry will get its UK premiere at the Tabard Theatre, Chiswick from Wednesday 31 October - Sunday 25 November, directed by Phoebe Barran, who also directed Tryst at the Tabard Theatre last year.

Melissa Errico wins the heart of London! In her tour de force one-woman concert “MELISSA ERRICO SINGS SONDHEIM,” Errico wowed sold-out starry crowds and triumphed in her UK debut at the prestigious Live At Zédel. The show was billed as “Errico's long-awaited London solo debut, bringing her gorgeous voice, and a unique and unpredictable intelligence, wit and mischief to the music and lyrics of Stephen Sondheim.”  She was accompanied on piano by Tedd Firth and percussion by Adam Kovacs. The London critics weighed in with rave reviews:

Dearborn Street. Merrily We Roll Along is based on the play by the same name written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.
