Winter Opera continues it’s seventeenth season with another iconic operetta—Victor Herbert’s Naughty Marietta.  This lovely old show premiered in 1910. It was produced by the first Oscar Hammerstein (the grandfather of you-know-who).  In 1935 a movie version was made—with Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy.

Neville Talbot who steers audiences through the play based on the true story of a bitter feud at Oxford University.

The PLAYGROUND FESTIVAL OF NEW WORKS is a leading showcase of new plays and new playwrights. This year, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival marks its 25th anniversary, by presenting its offerings on-line. The resulting fest is a 25-event covering 5-weeks, all live-streamed via Zoom, and largely free of charge.

The Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation today honored social justice pioneer and sports icon Billie Jean King, actor and author F. Murray Abraham, architect and designer Daniel Libeskind, and philanthropist Gregory Annenberg Weingarten at its 2016 Ellis Island Family Heritage Awards, held in the Great Hall at the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. In JACK LEMMON RETURNS, the legendary actor's son Chris takes the audience through highlights of his father's career. There is, of course, lots of laughter but also poignant moments about the elder Lemmon's total preoccupation with his career, to the detriment of his satellite family's relationship with him.

Sunday 15 March marks the centenary of the date that George Llewelyn Davies died in action during the First World War. George was the eldest of the Llewelyn Davies children and, along with brother Michael, was one of J.M.Barrie's favourite boys who inspired him to create the characters of Peter Pan and the lost boys. To honour this pivotal date, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in association with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity, releases images from the J.M. Barrie archive, including the last letter written to Barrie by George Llewelyn Davies from the trenches the day before his death at the age of 21.

Amas Musical Theatre and The Countess of Storyville, LLC will present a developmental workshop of the new musical by Martin Silvestri (music), Joel Higgins (lyrics) and R.M. Cohen (book). This epic story of lust, love, mystery and murder will begin performances on February 12, 2014 at The Peter J. Sharp Theatre (416 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) and continue through February 15. Lynne Taylor-Corbett directs. Chance Theater presents the fifth show of its 15th Anniversary Season - a family-friendly holiday offering The Secret Garden - The Musical with book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Marsha Norman, music by Tony Award nominee Lucy Simon, and directed by Casey Long and KC Wilkerson.
