Stephen Sondheim appeared as a guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night! Sondheim and Colbert have history, as Colbert starred in the 2011 production of Sondheim's musical, Company.

CHICAGO, Broadway's longest running American musical, just held a celebratory cocktail reception yesterday at New York City's The Palm Restaurant West Side location to officially launch the show's 20th anniversary year. A regional production of RENT doesn't open until January at Coeur d'Alene's Lake City Playhouse, but locals are already protesting the show because it 'promotes vulgarity and sets a bad example.' Watch the video below to check out the full story.

Tony Award winner Alice Ripley is prepping a new solo recording for Sh-K-Boom Records, the same label that released her 2000 debut album Everything's Fine and the acclaimed original cast recording of Next to Normal. Daily Practice: Volume 1 will feature acoustic covers of songs from artists like Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Carole King, Alanis Morissette, Carly Simon and U2. 'It's a collection of songs that I play every day,' Ripley told Broadway.com in an exclusive chat about the new CD. 'I pick up my guitar every day, especially at times where I don't know where I am or who I am. My guitar reminds me... Reminds me of why I wanted to sing and who I am and what I have to say.'

Putting It Together is a musical revue that showcases 30 of Sondheim's most beloved songs from such musicals as Sunday in the Park with George, Assassins, Company, Merrily We Roll Along, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd and others. Many of the classic Sondheim songs are presented in a context entirely different from that for which they were written, so the show is billed as a 'review' of the composer's work. The final curtain fell on Broadway for the landmark musical Rent on September 7th, 2008. But the power of the show lives on with 'Rent:Filmed Live On Broadway'. BWW TV spoke with the multi-talented Justin Johnston, who portrays 'Angel' in the film, a role he essayed on Broadway for over 7 years right up to the musical's final performance.

On September 7, 2008 the curtain will fall on Broadway for the final performance of Rent. In celebration of the show and its history making run, we gave the cast a portable FLIP video camera so they could give us their view of life backstage. As they were able to film themselves, the FLIP video footage allows you to see and hear Rent from the actor's unique perspective.

The Hot Ticket, a part of Sony Pictures, is releasing RENT to select movie theaters for four shows only in September - a way to bring the show to audiences across the country one last time.
