Ballet Tech has announced Ballet Tech Across New York, a new initiative providing dance enrichment to elementary schools across New York City.

Ballet Tech’s Kids Dance will return to The Joyce Theater June 8-11 following an acclaimed production last year.

Ballet Tech’s Kids Dance will return to The Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Avenue) with a program devised by the organization’s new artistic director, Dionne D. Figgins. The production celebrates founder Eliot Feld, featuring some of his early Kids Dance pieces as part of Ballet Tech’s expanding repertory.

Ballet Tech, which each year introduces hundreds of New York City public school children to the beauty and rigor of classical dance today announces that Eliot Feld, its founder, artistic director, and president, is stepping down. He said, 'After 47 years of tightropes and other exhilarations, it's time to pass the baton.'

Ballet Tech KIDS DANCE returns home to The Joyce for six performances of Feld classics, June 6 to 9. Sixty-three whiz-kids, ages 11 to 18, will take the stage with four Feld favorites: Hello Fancy, KYDZNY, Joggers and A Stair Dance.

Ballet Tech is a unique partnership between the Ballet Tech Foundation, Inc. and the New York City Department of Education. Here students beginning in grade 4 have the opportunity to combine professional tuition-free arts instruction with a public school education. With approximately 180 students enrolled, Ballet Tech is dedicated to introducing children of NYC to the beauty and rigor of classical dance, while producing a new generation of dancers whose diversity reflects the full-spectrum of the American community.

A complete delight for all ages, this full-length ballet is based on William Shakespeare's comedy about the romantic adventures, quarrels and reunions of two pairs of mortal lovers and the king and queen of the fairies. Balanchine's Midsummer, which New York City Ballet premiered in 1962, was the first original evening-length ballet he choreographed in America. Staged by PNB Founding Artistic Director Francia Russell, PNB's production is an enchanted landscape where misunderstandings and mayhem weave tangled paths through the opulent layers of Martin Pakledinaz's designs and Balanchine's marvelously crafted partnerings. All ends well in Act II's wedding festivities with the recognition of ideal love, tenderly portrayed in an exquisite pas de deux. The Tony Awards Administration Committee has announced this year's recipients for the Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre. This year's awards will be presented to Bernard 'Bernie' Gersten, Executive Producer of Lincoln Center Theater; Scenic Designer Ming Cho Lee and Paul Libin, Executive Vice President of Jujamcyn Theatres.
