Fans of the unforgettable Debbie Reynolds and members of the Thalians, an organization she helped found, flocked to the El Portal Friday June 30 for a dedication of the mainstage and grand party to celebrate her life and career. It was an SRO event, with celebrity guests, whose proceeds benefited the great charity work of the Thalians - 'Hollywood for Mental Health', to which Reynolds devoted tirelessly of herself since its inception in 1955. Debbie had history with the El Portal. It was one of her favorite venues, as she used to ride her bicycle there to go to the movies as a young girl living in Burbank...and she performed there with her fabulous night blub act and the play Love Letters 46 times between 2003 and 2015 So, it is totally apropo to name the mainstage in honor of this great star and humanitarian.

Lake Travis Musical Theatre production, the iconic 1954 musical PETER PAN, makes for an entertaining evening.

Drama Learning Center's professional training program for emerging young artists will present the area premiere of Cry-Baby the Musical this June. Adapted from the cult classic 1990 John Waters film, Cry-Baby follows the star-crossed teen romance between delinquent Wade "Cry-Baby" Walker and the rich and square Allison Vernon-Williams in 1950's Baltimore. Houston Grand Opera (HGO) marks the sixth decade of making the art of opera accessible to all audiences at Miller Outdoor Theatre with two free, fully staged performances of Donizetti's The Elixir of Love on May 19 and 20, starting at 8 p.m. A magic elixir gives a love-struck young man the extra dose of confidence he needs to thwart a rival and win the woman of his dreams, but the elixir creates just as many problems as it solves. The bright, sunny production is set on the Amalfi Coast in the 1950s-complete with Vespas and a hot air balloon. Acclaimed box office star, producer and humanitarian Richard Gere will open the 34th edition of Miami Dade College's Miami Film Festival on March 3, 2017, followed by an Opening Night Gala screening of his new film, Norman: The Moderate Rise and Tragic Fall of a New York Fixer, directed by 2-time Oscar-nominated Israeli filmmaker Joseph Cedar, with the KORBEL Opening Night Party to follow at Miami's Historic Alfred I. Dupont Building.

Antaeus Theatre Company inaugurates the newly completed Kiki & David Gindler Performing Arts Center, the company's new home in the City of Glendale, with a fully partner-cast production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams. Opening nights (one for each cast) are set for March 23 and March 24, with low-priced previews beginning March 16. Cameron Watson directs Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece that was the playwright's personal favorite.
