A Noise Within (ANW) concludes its 2009-10 season with celebrated Irish playwright JOHN MILLINGTON SYNGE's THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD directed by Co-Founder/Co-Artistic Director Geoff Elliott, which opens Saturday, April 17 and closes Saturday, May 22, 2010 (previews begin Saturday, April 10). The once controversial play - which sparked riots during and after its debut in Dublin in 1907, was booed in New York four years later, and resulted in the arrest of the Philadelphia cast on charges of staging an immoral performance - has since been recognized as a masterpiece.

The 2010 New York Philharmonic Concerts in the Parks, Presented by Didi and Oscar Schafer, will open with a free joint concert featuring the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Andrey Boreyko, and the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, conducted by its music director, Long Yu, with pianist Lang Lang as one of the soloists, Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at 8:00 p.m., on the Great Lawn in Central Park.

The Pay What You Can program allows patrons to purchase tickets for what they can afford.

Japan Society stimulates cultural appetites and satisfies even the most adventurous palates this spring with j-CATION: Taste Japan, a day-long open house festival devoted to Japanese food. On Saturday, April 10, from 1 pm-1 am, this inaugural event celebrates food through a host of delectable offerings - both cultural and culinary - allowing visitors to take a vacation to Japan without ever leaving the city. Exemplifying everything Japan Society has to offer, j-CATION fills the Society's theater, gallery, lounge and classrooms with an array of activities including how-to sessions, a wide selection of Japanese snacks and drinks, artistic and educational workshops, live music, a film screening, contests, and more. All ages welcome ($5 suggested donation).

Japan Society's spring Globus Film Series Mad, Bad... & Dangerous to Know: Three Untamed Beauties of Japanese Cinema celebrates some of the most radical portrayals of Japanese women in film history by three iconic actresses. From March 31 through April 18, the 13-film series unfolds in three parts over three weeks: Ayako Wakao: Passion Made Flesh, Meiko Kaji: A Mad, Bad Unholy Easter Weekend; and Mariko Okada: The Discreet Charm of the Adulteress. General admission to each screening is $11/$7 Japan Society members, students & seniors. The Phoenix Theatre of Indianapolis and Indiana Repertory Theatre are bringing playwright Steven Dietz to Indianapolis for a One-on-One discussion on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 1:00 pm. The event will be moderated by Lou Harry, Arts & Entertainment Writer for Indianapolis Business Journal and take place on the Phoenix Theatre Mainstage. This one-on-one is being held in conjunction with both theatres producing plays by Dietz this spring. Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) is producing Becky's New Car from March 23 through April 11, 2010 and Phoenix Theatre is producing Yankee Tavern from April 8 through May 1, 2010.

The Staten Island Historical Society has announced the launch of its Online Collections Database featuring over 100 selections from the extensive clothing collection at Historic Richmond Town. The Online Collections Database enables virtual visitors to study selected highlights in addition to the objects on view in museum galleries and historic house settings. This new resource can be visited by using the New! Online Collections Database link found on the home page of Historic Richmond Town's website.
