Music Mountain, America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, continues its 86th anniversary season with the Calidore String Quartet and guest artist Daniel Phillips, viola on Sunday, June 21st (3PM) performing Schubert, Caroline Shaw, Mendelssohn, and Brahms. Also this weekend, America's foremost Gilbert & Sullivan repertory ensemble, the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players, honors their 40th anniversary season on Saturday, June 20th (6:30PM) including a special pre-concert dinner at The Falls Village Inn (5PM). This weekend also marks the beginning of the new Distinguished Artist Recital Series - a series of three evening recitals on Fridays (7:30pm) featuring the talents of this summer's visiting faculty. Music Mountain has a long-standing tradition of bringing musicians of all ages to Gordon Hall. This weekend is a glowing example of this mission - the young Calidore String Quartet is embarking on their 4th year as an ensemble, while The New York Gilbert & Sullivan Players are celebrating their 40th year! Oakland's beloved Christmas Revels tackles an intriguing American theme this year for the first time in decades with a musical exploration of the Depression set in Appalachia, which then travels westward through the bayous of Louisiana toward the Pacific Coast. Performances run from today, December 12 - 14 and December 19 - 21 at the Scottish Rite Temple in Oakland.

In a little town known as New York City, on a tiny street known as Broadway, the Roundabout Theatre Company took the 1930's Cole Porter classic Anything Goes and revived it on the Great White Way. Starring Tony Winner (soon to be two time Tony Winner) Sutton Foster as Reno Sweeney, Broadway's sweetheart Laura Osnes in the role of Hope Harcourt, and the legendary Joel Grey as Moonface Martin. The show went on to win the 2011 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, awarded Foster her second Tony, and also took home the prize for Best Choreography before closing in July 2012. Two years later, the award-winning revival hit the road in the U.S. national tour, surprisingly (coming from someone who saw the revival on Broadway) rivaling its New York counterpart.

Every year, despite a litany of warnings they come to the Big Apple with big dreams.
