Dallas Opera Announces Season Of 'Tragic Obsessions'

The Dallas Opera is pleased to announce the five darkly dazzling operas that comprise the company's 2011-12 season in the Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. With opening night on Friday, October 21, 2011, the 55th international season - "Tragic Obsessions" - will showcase compelling works by Donizetti, Janacek, Wagner, Verdi and Mozart, and will include an outstanding Dallas opera-in-concert, important debuts and some of the company's most renowned productions. Each opera will feature the superbly talented Dallas Opera Orchestra and Dallas Opera Chorus and will be performed in its original language, with English translations projected above the stage at every performance. Exclusive subscriber extras include "A Cabaret Evening with Patricia Racette" and a fun-filled family concert starring soprano Ava Pine and the Dallas Opera Orchestra.

East Lynne Theatre Company Holds Auditions for 2011 Season, 3/19

East Lynne Theater Company will have two audition days of open calls for Equity actors: the full-day of auditions in NYC is an AEA required call and the four-hour day in Cape May, NJ is a non-required call. On Saturday, March 19 from noon to 4:00 PM, the call will be at the theater's venue, The First Presbyterian Church, 500 Hughes St., Cape May, NJ. Sign-up for this non-required audition begins at 11:30 AM and continues through 3:55 PM. On Friday, April 15, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM, the required call will be at the Actors' Equity Audition Center, 165 West 46th St., 2nd Floor, NYC. Sign-up for this audition begins at 8:30 AM, and continues through 5:25 PM. Lunch break is from 1:00-2:00 PM. At both auditions, non-union actors will be seen as long as no Equity actors are kept waiting.

Freddie Mercury could sing anything...in any style, and that alone is an art to celebrate. After covering and loving his music for years, Ms. Ozard and musical director Joe Wicht are creating 'Somebody To Love: My Musical Tribute to Freddie Mercury.' Carly will be Queen for a day, paying homage to her idol, and sharing historic and interesting facts about Mercury's public and intimate lifestyle. Carly relates to Mercury's flair for theatrical and dramatic performing, incorporating his work into a night of fabulous cabaret.

Rarely does the opportunity arise to see a wide range of work by Charles Burchfield (1893-1967), one of the most inventive artists of the twentieth century. This summer, viewers will be able to see his art in abundance in two concurrent exhibitions. On June 10, 2010 from 6 - 7:30pm, DC Moore Gallery is opening 'Charles Burchfield: Fifty Years as a Painter,' an exceptional group of watercolors and drawings that span his fifty-year career. Many are from private collections and have never been on exhibition before or have not been seen in public for decades. The exhibition will run through September 25. Also in June, the Whitney Museum of American Art will present a major retrospective of his work.
