Clap your hands if you can believe it, the Tony Award-winning musical production 'Peter Pan' soars back to Moonlight Amphitheatre from July 20, 2016 to Aug. 6, 2016 at 8 p.m. The classic, family favorite production hit the Broadway stage in 1954 and has since been adapted for the movie screen several times for more than 60 years. The original Broadway production and revivals received nine Tony Award nominations with the most recent in 1999 for Best Revival of a Musical. The Moonlight production features the sets and costumes of the famous Cathy Rigby production, including spectacular flying effects. Writers Theatre, under the leadership of Artistic Director Michael Halberstam and Executive Director Kathryn M. Lipuma, announces a one-week extension to Company, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by George Furth. The production is directed by William Brown. Company features original orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Orchestral Reductions by Ian Weinberger, music direction by Tom Vendafreddo and choreography by Brock Clawson. The show, originally slated to run through July 31, 2016, will add an additional week, through August 7, in the Alexandra C. and John D. Nichols Theatre at 325 Tudor Court, Glencoe.

Today in 1991, the second Broadway revival of Peter Pan opened at the MInskoff Theatre, where it ran for 48 performances. Peter Pan is a musical adaptation of J. M. Barrie's 1904 play Peter Pan and Barrie's own novelization of it, Peter and Wendy. The music is mostly by Mark 'Moose' Charlap, with additional music by Jule Styne, and most of the lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh, with additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The original 1954 Broadway production, starring Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook, earned Tony Awards for both stars.

Producing Artistic Director Chuck Tobin today announced the July 1st opening of Jeffrey Hatcher's area premiere adaptation of Wait Until Dark, written by Frederick Knott at Saint Michael's Playhouse (tonight, July 1 - 11). Directed by Sarah Carleton the cast features Abby Lee as Susan, John D. Alexander as Roat, Christian Kohn as Mike, Bill Carmichael as Carlino, David Rossetti as Sam, and introducing Jillian Kenny as Gloria.

According to Deadline, Mary Martin's 1960 Tony Award, which she earned for her performance in The Sound of Music, was purchased at auction today for $35,000. The trophy (which was one of four that she earned throughout her career onstage) came Boston's RR Auction as a part of the estate of Martin's son, Larry Hagman, who passed away in 2012 from complications of acute myeloid leukemia.
