Portland Ovations is proud to announce that Pittsburgh Opera will fully stage and costume the world premiere of Maine composer Daniel Sonenberg's Opera The Summer King during its 2016 -17 season. A Portland Ovations' commission, The Summer Kingwill be Pittsburgh Opera's first world premiere in its 78 year history and will conclude its upcoming season with multiple performances from April 29th through May 7th at the Benedum Center.

On Monday, November 16, Silver Hill Hospital will hold its sixth annual fall Gala at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York City. This year's Giving Hope Gala will honor renowned psychologist Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., and former patient and longtime Silver Hill Hospital supporter Jonny Podell. Comedian Colin Quinn will serve as the evening's Master of Ceremonies.

Broadway legend Joel Grey (CABARET, WICKED) and Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein (FINDING NEVERLAND) were honored last night at this year's Fred and Adele Astaire Awards. The gala evening CELEBRATED the 2015 season's outstanding dance and choreography on Broadway and film. The world premiere of the new edition of Johnny Johnson by Paul Green and Kurt Weill, with text and music not heard since 1937, will be staged at the University of North Carolina. Performances will take place in the Kenan Theatre, Center for Dramatic Art on Thursday, November 20th at 8pm, Friday, November 21st at 8pm (post-show discussion), Saturday, November 22nd at 8pm (pre-show symposium), Sunday, November 23rd at 2pm, and Monday, November 24th at 5pm.

Palo Alto Players opens its 84th season with the West Coast premiere of the colorful and stirring musical, Big Fish (based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the Columbia Motion Picture written by John August). With music & lyrics by Andrew Lippa and book by John August, this tender tribute to family and the magic of storytelling is a feast for the eyes, as well as the heart. Big Fish will play for 11 performances (September 12-28, 2014) at the Lucie Stern Theater, located at 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto.

Commissioned by the Finborough Theatre from Cerberus Theatre, the UK premiere and the English world premiere of controversial German playwright Rolf Hochhuth's Sommer 14 - A Dance of Death in a brand new translation opens at the Finborough Theatre for a four week limited season today, 5 August 2014 (Press Night: Thursday, 7 August at 7.30pm).

This year's Gala will honor longtime supporter and Board Director, Peter Busch Orthwein, and his wife, Beverly, and CNBC anchor, Lawrence Kudlow. In addition, there will be a special performance Cyndi Lauper.

Fort Ticonderoga has received a grant from the French Heritage Society to underwrite restoration work on the Fort's Soldiers' Barracks. The grant was given to Fort Ticonderoga, originally named Fort Carillon in 1755, because of its historic significance as a French heritage site. The project will replace 80 year old windows and sills on the third floor of the Soldiers' Barracks. Restoration work is currently underway with the windows expected to be installed by the spring of 2014.

Howard Hawks, the quintessential Hollywood director known for his mastery of many genres, will be the subject of a complete retrospective at Museum of the Moving Image from today, September 7 through November 10, 2013. The Museum will present 39 features. All of the films will be shown in 35mm-many in stunning restorations-except for Red Line 7000, which will be shown in 16mm.
