Why do these women box? What are they boxing for? What does boxing give them? And what do they stand to lose? All of these questions helped to shape and hone the play. Fighting for representation and having autonomy over their own bodies were grave challenges that our Victorian lady boxers faced. They were also the same struggles faced by women to have female boxing legitimised, respected and funded as a sport (with the battle still raging on).

GWEN AND IDA is a work of fiction, a fantasy. Any resemblance to actual human beings is purely coincidental,' concludes the program for Gwen and Ida: The Object is of No Importance, currently at Caos on F Street. Of course, the lives of painter Gwen John and actordirector Ida Lupino could each make a full length documentary of serious importance with slides of John's elegant paintings and clips of Lupino's always forceful acting (They Drive by Night [1940], While the City Sleeps [1956]) and the 1964 episode she directed of 'The Twilight Zone' ('The Masks'), the only woman ever to do so. Instead, David S. Kessler has written his fantasy which cannot help but distort the significance of the women's lives and careers.

Alongside Sh!t Actually, Camden People's Theatre's alternative Christmas offering includes SheGoat's The Undefinable (10 21 Dec), exploring unconventional relationships and celebrating the unusual and underrepresented qualities of love.

With a catchy hook and solid, danceable beat, this duo brings their talent as producers into the song along with their musical skills. The video is a celebration of New York and the relationships and freedom found within the chaos of the city. The juxtaposition of community and loneliness in the video parallels the themes of desire and loss in the song, and seems to call out Matty's own history of being present in multiple worlds and genres at the same time.
