Skirball Cultural Center Presents L.A. Debut of THE LOVE SONG OF R. BUCKMINSTER FULLER

The Skirball Cultural Center presents the L.A. debut of the 'live documentary' The Love Song of R. Buckminster Fuller on Today, November 10, at 8:00 p.m. In a one-night-only engagement, taking place in an intimate 300-seat venue, the screening will feature Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Sam Green narrating the film in person while the acclaimed indie rock band Yo La Tengo performs their original score. Described by author and Harper's Magazine contributing editor Rebecca Solnit as 'a movie being born as you see it and hear it, as alive as music,' the documentary traces the career of twentieth-century futurist, architect, inventor, and author R. Buckminster Fuller (1895-1983), who experimented for fifty years to find out what a single person can do on behalf of humanity.

College of DuPage (COD) College Theater presents Oscar Wilde's "A Woman of No Importance," directed by COD Professor of Theater, Amelia Barrett at the McAninch Arts Center's Studio Theatre, Oct. 6-23. "A Woman of No Importance" premiered in 1893 in London's Haymarket Theatre. As with many of Wilde's plays, it satirizes English upper class society and features many witty, memorable and highly quotable lines, such as "Men marry because they are tired; women because they are curious. Both are disappointed;" and "Nothing succeeds like excess." Please note: This play contains adult language and themes.

Promethean Ensemble Theatre will enter its second decade with three plays that view characters and stories of the past through the eyes of modern playwrights. Leading off the season in December will be Gross Indecency: The Three Trials of Oscar Wilde, Moises Kaufman's 1997 biographical play about playwright Oscar Wilde's 1895 trials and ultimate conviction for the crime of homosexuality. Dead Writers Theatre Collective opens its 2016 season with a clear look back at the Oscar Wilde classic, The Importance of Being Earnest. It opens July 1 at The Athenaeum Theatre. "It's the perfect choice to launch our 'Mad About The Boy' theme," states Collective Artistic Director Jim Schneider. "We're celebrating the good and bad side of love - all kinds of love. Our other two shows include a cabaret style production of Noel Coward's sophisticated work in Oh, Coward! and a dramatic look at tragic love with The Heiress. All three shows will be considered for a Jeff Award Recommendation."
