YALE REPERTORY THEATRE (James Bundy, Artistic Director; Victoria Nolan, Managing Director), the multiple Tony Award-winning theatre dedicated to the production of new plays and bold interpretations of classic works, has announced its 2018-19 Season.

Bristol Old Vic have today announced the latest recipients of The Leverhulme Arts Scholarships for 2018-19. Bristol Old Vic's Ferment initiative has once again partnered with The Leverhulme Trust to offer exceptional local artists; Emma Callander, Laila Diallo, Julia Head, Jo Hellier and Kid Carpet (aka Ed Patrick), a year-long opportunity to explore their practice.

The critically acclaimed Brits Off Broadway, host to the UK's most innovative and provocative theater in New York City, presented by 59E59 Theaters (Val Day, Artistic Director; Brian Beirne, Managing Director) returns from Wednesday, April 11 - Sunday, July 1. The single ticket prices range from $25 - $70 ($20 - $49 for 59E59 Members). Tickets to Brits Off Broadway go on sale on Tuesday, March 6 at Noon, with a special pre-sale for 59E59 Members beginning Tuesday, February 27 at Noon. Three of New Jersey's top corporations, Bank of America, The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey, and PSEG Foundation, have once again joined forces with the New Jersey State Arts Council to support the 21st annual  Stages Festival ("Stages"). Stages will offer over 90 theatre performances and programs for children and adults free of charge or at significantly discounted rates. Events will take place at theatres, art centers, libraries, schools, and other community venues from March 1st to the 31st, across the state.

New Jersey Theatre Alliance ("the Alliance") and its partners and funders are pleased to present the 21st annual Stages Festival ("Stages"), a statewide, month-long festival of theatre offering over 90 theatre performances and programs for children and adults free of charge or at significantly discounted rates. Events will take place at theatres, arts centers, libraries, schools, and other community venues throughout the state during the month of March.

TRUCK NIGHT IN AMERICA Premieres on History 3/8

It's truck versus terrain, as 50 truck owners from across the United States compete in grueling challenges that test their ingenuity and driving ability in HISTORY's new ten episode nonfiction competition series, 'Truck Night in America' premiering on Thursday, March 8 at 10PM ET/PT. With the assistance of four experts, owners will compete for the chance to drive the toughest, most arduous truck obstacle course ever built, and drive away with $10,000 prize.

With the history of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS as rich and complicated as the melodrama within itself, the reinvention presented by the Austin Opera this season is reminiscent of this Opera's rich history and beginnings. Premiering initially in 1912, Richard Strauss conceived a performance mixing the comedic style of Moliere' with the musically focused German-style melodrama opera. Appearing originally in two contrasting acts, the first begins as a play, and the second transitions into a full-fledged opera with comedic highlights. Historically, audiences were flustered in Munich and London by the contrasting art forms rolled into one night of entertainment - specifically, opera aficionados were loathe to sit through an entire act of a performance, before hearing the opera they were expecting in act two. After a variety of attempts with different versions and audience locations, Strauss' Libretto partner Hofmannsthal proposed a new first act be written to provide context on marrying the dramatization of operatic performance style with less prestigious but entertaining commedia dell'arte. Thus the second version of ARIADNE AUF NAXOS was presented in 1916 in Berlin and despite unsuccessful returns of a few productions, this opera/commedia concoction went on to be performed all over European Opera houses until it's first presentation in the United States in 1925. This rich history and reworking lend well to the present production at The Long Center presented by Austin Opera.

St phane Den ve will conduct the New York Philharmonic in an all-Prokofiev program featuring the Violin Concerto No. 1, with James Ehnes as soloist; selections from Romeo and Juliet; and The Love for Three Oranges Suite, Today, January 25, 2018, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 27 at 8:00 p.m.

Lyric Stage will produce the regional premiere of the new musical Daddy Long Legs at Dallas' historic Majestic Theatre.

Primary Stages has announced that tickets are on sale today for the final two productions of their 2017/18 season: the World Premiere of A WALK WITH MR. SITI Company, the internationally acclaimed ensemble theater, co-founded by famed American director Anne Bogart, showcases directed by SITI Co-Artistic Director Leon Ingulsrud.

The new exhibition Elijah Pierce: An American Journey at the Canton Museum of Art (CMA) celebrates the artwork of one of the most important self-taught, American folk artists of the 20th century: Elijah Pierce (1892 1984). Pierce was a prolific African American wood carver known for his brightly painted sculptural panels illustrating biblical stories, moral lessons, historical events, and images from popular culture a landscape of wood-carved art that is unlike any in America. This exhibit focuses on 39 major works. Featured in the exhibit is Pierce's most ambitious carving, Book of Wood (1932), consisting of seven panels with 33 scenes illustrating the years Christ lived on the earth, as well as works depicting segregation, the Vietnam War, Watergate, and Civil Rights, among others. This exhibition is on view November 24, 2017 - March 4, 2018 with a free public reception on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

What happens when you take a holiday classic like Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL, set it in Connecticut and include Connecticut historical figures such as Harriet Beecher Stowe, P.T. Barnum, and Mark Twain as the Christmas ghosts? You get A CONNECTICUT CHRISTMAS CAROL, an all-new musical take on the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, with a book by LJ Fecho and a score by Michael O'Flaherty that begins performances at Goodspeed's Terris Theatre on November 17. Directing this premiere musical production is Broadway actor and director, Hunter Foster, who returns to the Goodspeed to bring to life this exciting new take on the classic tale. I had the pleasure of sitting down with Hunter to talk about the show, what it's like working on a new production like this, and his directing style.
