Step-sisters in a magical trailer park, a clash between past and present (that's a realtor's nightmare), an exploration of race and family in segregated Cleveland, a murderous family in the American West -- sounds like this year's finalists for The Landing Theatre Company's New American Voices Play Reading Series.

I don't think my goal is to be a performer, rather more of a person who makes theater happen. Whether that is being an actor, a designer, a director, a patron, a donor, a supporter, an observer, or the executive director of a theater company, that's completely up to fate, really. All I want is to be a part of the progression of this art.

Drew Redington is one of the lucky few who decide to take a break from their college theatre program and study abroad on Broadway. An Elon Musical Theatre student, Redington just wrapped up his jump-roppin', tap dancin' role in the ensemble of 'Holiday Inn: The New Irving Berlin Musical' I was lucky enough to sit down with Drew and hear about the journey from his hometown of St Louis, Missouri to the Grand White Way.

I'll never forget the day I found out the first-ever BroadwayCon was happening. I saw the headline in big, bold letters, and could barely believe my eyes. I WENT INSANE (tbh, that's an understatement). I began jumping up and down, screaming at the top of my lungs!!! For years and years, I'd been constantly rambling on about how desperately I wanted a Broadway convention to happen. Finally, it was going to be a reality, and I was overwhelmed by joy and surprise! The first year of BroadwayCon was absolutely unforgettable-and not just because we got stuck at the Hilton in the midst of that crazy blizzard!!

The duo hope Better Half makes people stop and think. Mental health isn't a black and white issue. Life isn't black and white. Life is messy, relationships are messy, and people are messy. Sometimes there are things going on within a person that not everyone can and will understand. And that's okay.

For theatre lovers in our area, we always look forward to what our theatre companies have in store for us in their upcoming seasons. We look to see if there are any trends that stand out to us as audience members. We also see growth in many companies with each new season of shows. Anyone that's been following DC theatre for a while will notice how things have changed in the last twenty or thirty years. One of the biggest examples of this would be the clean up and revitalization of 14th Street, which had direct implications for Studio Theatre and Source.

About a month ago, my voice made its local television debut as I stood on the Philadelphia Art Museum steps, in an aquamarine sweater and polka dot skirt, and sang twenty seconds of 'You're The One That I Want.' I would consider a Thanksgiving spent singing one of my favorite musicals a pretty dip-da-dip-da-dip doo-wop-be-dooby-doo one.

'For 47 years, the world of entertainment was blessed with a force of nature called Judy Garland,' Michael Feinstein begins, 'and for Judy, it all began at MGM.' As the artist takes his time with Arthur Schwartz/Howard Dietz's 'That's Entertainment,' screens on either side of the stage show clips from the film of the same name deftly edited to reflect every lyric. A coda of special material makes 'star' recognition even more specific.
In Feinstein's A HOLIDAY TO REMEMBER at Feinstein's/54 Below, we hear songs from Garland's films and appearances, some iconic, others less known. Despite a life of trials, we're told, the performer left a legacy of optimism and joy. She had a quick-witted sense of humor, especially about herself. On one occasion, when Lucille Ball was praised for her humor, she responded that it was scripted, while Judy Garland's was spontaneous. The show is peppered with illuminating anecdotes.

Fresh off a year-long career retrospective culminating in September's THE GOLDEN AGE OF JUSTIN VIVIAN BOND, v returns to Joe's Pub on December 12 at 9:30pm with a new holiday show, THE BIPOLAR EXPRESS.
