York Theater Company to Host Staged Reading of Erik Ransom's MORE THAN ALL THE WORLD

James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director of York Theater Company has announced that as part of its Developmental Reading Series, it will present Erik Ransom's 'More Than All the World' an epic musical inspired by Christopher Marlowe's 'Edward II' directed by Rachel Klein ('Around the World in 80 Days', 'The Anthem') with music direction and arrangements by Andy Peterson ('Atomic'). The reading will take place on March 15th at 2PM.

Have you seen 'The Ten Commandments' with Charlton Heston? Did you know that in 1923 DeMille made a silent version of 'The Ten Commandments?' He shot the film in Santa Barbara County, California, about 150 miles north of Hollywood, and built a huge City of the Pharaoh set. Designed by Paul Iribe, the 'father of Art Deco,' it was the largest set in motion picture history. When filming wrapped, the city mysteriously vanished.

San Francisco Opera Announces 2016-17 Season

San Francisco Opera General Director David Gockley and Music Director Nicola Luisotti today announced the Company's 2016–17 Season repertory and roster of international guest artists, conductors and creative teams scheduled to appear at the War Memorial Opera House, as well as initial programming for SF Opera Lab 2017 presentations at the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera's Taube Atrium Theater. The Company's 94th Season will also mark Matthew Shilvock's inaugural year as San Francisco Opera's new general director, succeeding his mentor and internationally respected impresario, David Gockley, who will step down on July 31, 2016.

National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene Stages First Revival of THE GOLDEN BRIDE in 70 Years, Starting Tonight

Now entering its 101st season, the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene [NYTF] will present the first contemporary revival of the lost Yiddish American operetta classic THE GOLDEN BRIDE (Di Goldene Kale). Featuring a cast of 20 and an orchestra of 14, this rare glimpse back into musical theater history begins previews tonight, December 2, as part of NYTF's inaugural year in residency at the Museum of Jewish Heritage [MJH]. The production marks the first long-running, full-scale production hosted at the Museum's 375-seat Edmond J. Safra Hall, which will be specially transformed for this ambitious event. Opening night is slated for Wednesday, December 9.

San Francisco Opera Announces Details of New Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera; Opens Feb. 2016

San Francisco Opera today announced new details of its soon-to-be-completed $21 million renovation of 38,000 square feet in the Veterans Building's fourth floor and basement named the Diane B. Wilsey Center for Opera. Adjacent to the War Memorial Opera House, the Wilsey Center for Opera is scheduled to open in late February 2016, and consolidates most of the Company's operations into a single campus in the vibrant and emerging arts district of San Francisco's Civic Center. The 1932 Beaux Arts-designed Veterans Building recently reopened in September following a 26-month, City-financed $156 million seismic retrofit and renovation of the historic Herbst Theatre, Green Room, meeting rooms, offices and corridors throughout the first three floors.

'Songs of the Harlem River: Forgotten one acts from the Harlem Renaissance' is a collection of one-acts written between 1920-1930 including works by Marita Bonner, Rafe M. Coleman, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Willis Richardson and Eulalie Spence as well as the poems of Sterling A. Brown, Langston Hughes and others. The evening is directed and choreographed by Shela Xoregos and will have its world premiere August 30 to September 6 in Theater for the New City's 2015 Dream Up Festival.

True story: in 1953, iconic L.A. architects Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler, onetime friends and business partners who had been bitterly estranged for 23 years, found themselves, by a vagary of fate, occupying the same hospital room in Cedars of Lebanon Hospital. Ensemble Studio Theatre/LA presents a site-specific production in which playwright/director Tom Lazarus imagines what might have transpired during that reunion. Ray Xifo and John Nielsen star as Neutra and Schindler, with Heather Robinson in the role of Nurse Rothstein. The world premiere of The Princes of Kings Road opens on Sept 12 for a four-week run at the architecturally significant Neutra Institute and Museum of Silverlake.
