Tim Taylor, a mortgage banking executive and former Old Spanish Days El Presidente (2008), has been elected to the Board of Directors for the Music Academy of the West. His three-year term began January 1.

The Dallas Opera has announced a partnership with the Music Academy of the West located in Santa Barbara, California, that will allow patrons from across North Texas to experience the artistry of the winners of the annual Marilyn Horne Song Competition as an added dimension of the popular Robert E. and Jean Ann Titus Art Song Recital Series. The Music Academy of the West is one the nation's premier summer training programs for gifted young classical musicians.

Margaret Cafarelli, a real estate executive whose firm specializes in mixed-use urban development and investment, has been elected chair of the Board of Directors for the Music Academy of the West. Her two-year term will begin on January 1, 2015. Ms. Cafarelli will succeed Robert Toledo, whose term as chair began in 2013. The Music Academy Board elections took place on December 2.

The Music Academy of the West will receive a $20,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to help fund an innovative four-year partnership with the celebrated New York Philharmonic. The grant, the fifth the Music Academy has received from the NEA in as many years, re-affirms the institution's stature as a premier classical music training facility, according to Academy President Scott Reed.

This week, Mr. van Zweden will lead the Orchestra in Korngold's Violin Concerto, with Hilary Hahn as soloist; Beethoven's Symphony No. 7; and J. Wagenaar's Cyrano de Bergerac Overture, marking the Philharmonic's first time performing the work, tonight, November 26, 2014, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, November 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, November 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Jaap van Zweden - music director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Hong Kong Philharmonic as well as former concertmaster of Amsterdam's Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra - will return to the New York Philharmonic for the first time since his debut in April 2012 to conduct two weeks of concerts. Santa Barbara, CA -- The Music Academy of the West has posted its highest attendance and revenue totals in its storied 67-year history, campus officials have announced. Sales revenue for the Music Academy's 2014 season, which concluded August 9, was up 3.5 percent over the previous year, while overall attendance grew to just shy of 35,500. Driving much of the gains were two sold-out performances of Carmen -- presented in honor of legendary mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne's 80th birthday -- at Santa Barbara's Granada Theatre on August 1 and 3. The 2014 Summer Festival also saw the Music Academy net a record $459,000 for its full-scholarship program through its annual Cabaret gala fundraiser on August 7 at Fess Parker's DoubleTree Resort.
