Cleveland International Piano Competition Winner to Make New York Debut at Carnegie Hall

Nikita Mndoyants, the electrifying first prize winner of the 2016 Cleveland International Piano Competition (CIPC) will make his New York debut at Carnegie Hall, Weill Hall on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at 8:00 pm. He will perform one of his own compositions, plus works by Beethoven, Schumann, and Prokofiev.

Among the most influential artists of American modern dance, Paul Taylor continues to shape the art that he has helped define since becoming a professional dancer and pioneering choreographer in 1954. Today, the Paul Taylor Dance Company is among the most sought after ensembles, having performed in more than 500 cities in 64 countries over the course of more than 60 years, bringing Paul Taylor's repertoire—now numbering 144 dances—to every part of the globe. For its debut at The Wallis, Mr. Taylor brings a program of classic works to The Wallis for three special performances on Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 at 8pm, and Sunday, May 7 at 2pm.

The Uptown/Downtown/Dance program will include an as-yet-untitled World Premiere from Martin Lawrance and the World Premiere of Painted Within by Zhong-Jing Fang, as well as a restaging of former NYTB resident choreographer Edward Henkel's ReVision, created in 1986, with music by Edvard Grieg, Holberg Suite op. 40 (1884). A 2013 NYTB commission, Short Memory by Pam Tanowitz, is set to live music by Lou Harrison and Henry Cowell and helps set up Ms. Tanowitz's brilliant use of stage space. The evenings include two more pieces by Ms. Tanowtiz: Light Moving, set to music by David Lang, and Double Andante, a 13-minute ballet for ten dancers set to the Andante movement of Beethoven's Sonata in D Major #15, which will be played live on piano two times at different tempos. Tickets are $29 and are available at SchimmelCenter.org.

Concertgoers can see, hear and take photos with “Big Carl,” Carl Fischer Music's historic giant tuba, at a free NJSO Accent event following the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra's performance of Vaughan Williams' Tuba Concerto with NJSO Principal Tuba Derek Fenstermacher on Sunday, April 9, at 3 pm at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark. Tuba players who bring their own mouthpieces can enter a drawing for a chance to play the nearly 8-foot-tall, 100-pound instrument. College students can also see Big Carl at the College Night party after the 8 pm concert on Friday, April 7.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (July 25, 2016)—Conducted by Semyon Bychkov in May 2016, the 13th annual Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn will be released on CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, and digital platforms by Sony Classical on August 12 and broadcast on PBS's Great Performances on Today, September 30 at 9 p.m. (check local listings.). The Summer Night Concerts are presented free each year in the gardens of Vienna's Imperial Schönbrunn Palace, and Mr. Bychkov—conducting the event for the first time—led the Vienna Philharmonic in front of its largest Summer Night Concert audience ever (102,000 spectators). The performance reached an additional 585,000 people through TV and radio, having been broadcast by 83 stations on five continents.

Kansas City Ballet Artistic Director Devon Carney today announced the appointment of six new members, Kelsey Hellebuyck, Emily Mistretta, Gustavo Ribeiro, Amaya Rodriguez, James Rogers, Kevin Wilson, and three new apprentices, Ivan Braatz, Sarah Joan Smith, and Katherine Sawicki to the Kansas City Ballet Company.
