As popular culture continues to be fractured with the advent of new forms of media and even more forms of delivery, it is good to know that there are still some institutions that you can continue to count on for quality entertainment. The newest DVD release from PBS Distribution brings three hallowed artistic institutions together for just that purpose. Five-time Tony-winner Angela Lansbury, two-time Tony-winner James Earl Jones, and Emmy and Peabody winning series GREAT PERFORMANCES unite for a disarmingly sweet production of Alfred Uhry's Pulitzer-Prize winning play DRIVING MISS DAISY.
As part of the 2015 Next Wave Festival, the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre of Taiwan had its US premiere of the piece Rice on September 16-19 at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House. The company's founder and Artistic Director, Lin Hwai-min, s a recent recipient of the Samuel H. Scripps/American Dance Festival Award for Lifetime Achievement, putting him in the same category as other notable choreographers such as Martha Graham, Merce Cunningham and William Forsythe. Cloud Gate is the first contemporary dance company in the greater Chinese-speaking community and was founded in 1973 with its name drawn from the oldest-known Chinese dance. Lin, a writer-turned-choreographer, often draws inspiration from Asian cultures and aesthetics in his work.
International City Theatre winds up its 30th anniversary season with an intimate portrait of musical icon Stephen Sondheim in his own words and music. DJ Gray directs and stages the Los Angeles premiere of James Lapine's award-winning Broadway hit, Sondheim on Sondheim. Previews are set for October 14 and 15, and opening night is October 16 at ICT's newly renovated home in the Long Beach Performing Arts Center.

Wilton's Music Hall will fully reopen to the public after four years of building works from September 2015 after completing much needed and vital Capital Project to secure the unique building. As part of the Capital Project, Wilton's has opened up 40% of the building which was not previously accessible. After seeing the new INTO THE WOODS movie twice over the holidays, I posted on Twitter about how two of the songs had stuck with me. After a tweet conversation, my BWW colleague Jeff Walker and I decided to put our heads together to try and come up with a list of Sondheim's most hummable tunes. Despite not discussing it beforehand, Jeff ended up picking songs from the 1960s and 70s, and I filled in the gaps with numbers from the 80s and 90s.

Together with Bob Marley, The Wailers have sold over 250 million albums and have played to an estimated 24 million people across the globe. The anchor of the band is Aston 'Family Man” Barrett, who was co-producer on many of Bob Marley's records and was responsible for almost all of the bass lines on Marley's hits.
