GOOD MORNING, THEATERATI! It's Thursday, June 1, 2017 - or, as we like to call it #TheaterThursday, 'June is busting out all over…' as a song from Carousel reminds us, and there's no better way to kick off a new month than by planning our theater outings for the weekend! Tomorrow night at Cumberland County Playhouse, the company, cast and crew unveil the 2017 model of Smoke on the Mountain, which marks the 24th year of the musical playing in Crossville. Weslie Webster directs and her cast includes Daniel W. Black and Lauren Marshall as Sanders family father and mother Burl and Vera.

The 71st Annual Tony Awards are this Sunday June 11th at 8/9c hosted by Kevin Spacey. It's the biggest award show of the Broadway season and it closes out a long awards season for Broadway and Off-Broadway musicals and plays. We can't help but wonder what chances this year's Best Musical and Best Play nominees have of taking home the ultimate prize...

No matter if she's a good witch on Broadway, a sassy press secretary on TV or a show-stopping singer on stage, Tony and Emmy Award-winner Kristin Chenoweth is always absolutely mesmerizing.

The Rooftop Productions effort does well by the Gesner and Schulz creation. Director Ted Ballard keeps things simple, just as Schulz presented his characters in pen and ink. Coupled with identifiably perfect costumes by Mandy Ken, and cartoon inspired, primary-colored set pieces designed by Dale Walsh, Ballard's cast is able to bring to life the wit and wisdom of the Peanuts gang.

Tony Award-winning Broadway producer Mike Isaacson will be presented The Commercial Theater Institute's Robert Whitehead Award for 'outstanding achievement in commercial theatre producing' at a reception at Sardi's on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. It was initially scheduled for March 14th but was rescheduled due to snowstorm Stella.

In The Wings Productions, under the leadership of Artistic Director Tanya Glassman and Executive Producer Adam Glassman, presents the award-winning 'Peanuts' musical You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, with performances March 24 through April 2, 2017 at the Snug Harbor Music Hall.

CK Productions' latest, Tony nominee You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown is a really cute production. Based on the characters created by Charles M. Schulz in his iconic comic strip Peanuts, this fun musical, created by Clark Gesner, was actually originally done in 1967. This incarnation, however, is a replication of the 1999 revival.

The 2017 Robert Whitehead Awards Ceremony originally scheduled for Tuesday, March 14, has been postponed due to inclement weather. A new date and time will be announced shortly.

David Mirvish, Michael Harrison, John Reid and Paul Elliott are delighted to present the Canadian premiere of the new British musical MRS HENDERSON PRESENTS, based on the smash-hit film.  Performances begin Wednesday March 15 through April 23 at Toronto's Royal Alexandra Theatre.  Media night is Wed March 22, 2017

With strong bright Sunday comic, Saturday morning cartoon candy colored lighting (Elaine Wong) and a wisely kid perspective skewing set (Jen Price Fick) and musical director (Terri Gorgone) at the keys, the intrepid, peppy cast of six sings and dances their way into your hearts. They are a wily charming bunch who radiate atomic warm into a smiling audience.

A massive undertaking in the debut of this re-worked show, has Peanuts fans, like myself giddy with excitement. Whether or not you are familiar with Clark Gesner's musical YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN, you are bound to recognize Track 21 of the York Theatre Company 2016 Off-Broadway Cast Recording. The theme 'Linus and Lucy,' written by Vince Guaraldi, is a familiar tune to all who have seen the well-known animated specials featuring the Peanuts kids. There is something oddly soothing about this gentle, understated theme, with its rolling feeling of continuity paired with plinking notes of whimsy, that has become so closely associated with Charles M. Schulz's legacy of 17,897 comic strips. The YOU'RE A GOOD MAN, CHARLIE BROWN band played 'Linus and Lucy' as walking-out music after the show, prompting much of the audience to stay and hear it through to the end.

Sources report that Broadway star Kristin Chenoweth may be making her return to the London stage in in George Stiles (music) and Anthony Drewe (lyrics) musical SOAPDISH.
