BWW Interviews: Back to the Exam Books for Mad Cows's THE HISTORY BOYS
by Justin J Sacramone - Aug 24, 2014

As schools are opening their doors and welcoming students back, class at the Mad Cow Theatre Company is also back in session with a production of Alan Bennett's 2005 Tony Winning Play, THE HISTORY BOYS. My review on the production, running through September 7th, will be up early next week. In the meantime, I was able to interview some of the cast members. Instead of your basic interview with straightforward questions, I kept with the spirit of Bennett's scholastic play by passing out the blue books with three open-ended questions about some of the themes from the play. Although these answers will not be graded, I am sure if Irwin took a glance at them he would not be regarding them as "abysmally dull".

Author Angie Manning Edusei Exposes Immigrants' Mistaken Mindset in New Book “Lost Crossing BroadWay: 40 Survival Lessons for the Wise Immigrant
by Robert Diamond - Apr 26, 2014

When she found out that the frustrations, hardships and difficulties of settling as an immigrant were not unique to her but was the experience of many other immigrants like herself, Angie Manning Edusei decided to publish her first self-help book for immigrants. Little did she know that not only immigrants, but citizens of host territories and those who have never traveled would also benefit from her work. In this book, Edusei seems breathlessly in pursuit of 'happy' but not for herself as she embraces the entire global community of immigrants, who are constantly changing themselves in this pursuit to fit into a new society while all the time assimilating at the risk of losing their own identity. The book's full title 'Lost Crossing BroadWay: 40 Survival Lessons for the Wise Immigrant' encapsulates the challenges of the author's own experiences when she chose to uproot her family from Jamaica seven years ago, to live in the United States. Edusei believes her book, which is based on some of her own experiences, is the immigrant's guide to achieving stability and success.

BWW Interviews: Popular Children's Author Ana Isabel O Publishes New Sequel
by Don Grigware - Jan 28, 2014

Internationally known biologist and writer Dr. Ana Isabel Ordonez is constantly embarking on new projects. Educated in Europe and a self-taught Victorian patchwork maker since the early 90s, Ordonez has presented her work in France and Luxembourg. As a scientist she holds Masters and PhDs in Genetics, Forestry and Animal Biology and has lectured extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Japan, China, New Zealand and South America on insect-plant pathology and biological control research. She has also written several articles on the value of nature. Ordonez, however, has not confined her interests to the world of science. A true Renaissance woman, she is also a reputed jazz editor, independent filmmaker, music/art promoter and producer. In 2012 she contributed tirelessly to the Dizzy Gillespie Memorial tribute with Christopher Kennedy Lawford, because she believes in her heart that true valuable art of any kind must never be forgotten. Five years earlier, in 2005 with trumpeter Herb Robertson she had founded Ruby Flower Records with the plan to produce avant-garde music, exclusively for connoisseurs and purist audiophiles with the slogan 'Creatively speaking...Where the talents blossom'. Only recently she decided to expand the company's offerings to also include poetry and literature for children. Her children's books have been so popular, she has written a new one, continuing the joy of her Musical Forest. Her nephew Geronimo is doing the rest of the illustrations, but Ana still paints every day. The book will be available on Amazon.com in about a month. It will be distributed worldwide.
