The evening's program celebrates Gaye's enigmatic and innovative contributions to the Motown sound during the peak of his career in the 1970s and 1980s, and his musical influence that spans generations. Legendary scenic and costume designer, MICHAEL YEARGAN (currently represented on Broadway with Fiddler on the Roof and The King and I), and costume designer SUSAN TSU are among the 2016 TDF/Irene Sharaff Awards recipients. The awards will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, May 20, at 6:30pm, at the Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street).  Ms. Tsu was selected to receive the 2016 TDF/Irene Sharaff Lifetime Achievement Award for costume design and Mr. Yeargan will receive the Robert L.B. Tobin Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatrical Design. The awards are presented through Theatre Development Fund's Costume Collection.

New York City, NY — Celebrating its 15th season, the Ensemble for the Romantic Century (ERC) returns to BAM Fisher for six performances of Anna Akhmatova: The Heart is Not Made of Stone. Written by Eve Wolf and directed by Donald T. Sanders, this multi-media production examines the troubled relationship between artistic creation and totalitarianism through the perspective of the Russian poet Anna Akhmatova (1889-1966). This tale of passion, love, political repression, and redemption is interwoven with music by Russian composers' Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich.

?Center Stage, Baltimore's premier regional theater, today announced that Michael Ross, its managing director from 2002 to 2008, will return on July 1, 2016 to join the theater's leadership team with Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah.

December 12 marks the centennial of Frank Sinatra's birth, which makes the arrival of Sandy Hackett's Rat Pack Christmas, which plays for one performance this Saturday at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, all the more special. Since 2009, Hackett, son of the late comedian Buddy Hackett, and his wife, Lisa Miller, have been presenting their stage shows that celebrate the hip, swingin', ring-a-ding-ding aura of the original Las Vegas Rat Pack. During the late '50s and early '60s, the Rat Pack ruled the Copa Room at the Sands Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, a freewheeling act that incorporated Great American Songbook tunes with a raucous, let's-throw-caution-to-the-wind attitude that became the definition of 'cool' in show business.

The Danish String Quartet has established a reputation for possessing an integrated sound, impeccable intonation and judicious balance.  With their technical and interpretive talents matched by an infectious joy for music-making and 'rampaging energy' (The New Yorker), the quartet has been acclaimed as one of the 'best quartets before the public today' (Washington Post).  Since making their debut in 2002 at the Copenhagen Festival, this group of musical friends has demonstrated a passion for Scandinavian composers, who they frequently incorporate into adventurous programs, while also proving skilled and profound performers of the classical masters. The ensemble's Meany Hall performance will be their first in Seattle.

Grammy Award-nominated concert pianist Lang Lang makes his first of three appearances at Carnegie Hall this season with a solo recital today, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. The concert features Bach's Italian Concerto, BWV 971-a complex and pioneering work inspired by Vivaldi-along with Tchaikovsky's The Seasons, Op. 37b and Chopin's four scherzos. By the time he was 22 years old, the acclaimed pianist had already performed twice at Carnegie Hall -with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra conducted by Yuri Temirkanov in 2001 and with the New York String Orchestra under Jaime Laredo in 2002-before making his sold-out solo recital debut in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage on November 7, 2003, which was recorded live by Deutsche Grammophon.

Before iTunes and Spotify came along, I used to collect every original cast CD of any Broadway or West End musical that I could lay my hands on, including foreign language cast recordings. By far, my largest collection of non-English cast CDs consists of Japanese cast recordings, many of which were released by Gekidan Shiki (Shiki Theatre Company). The Hayward Area Recreation and Park District's Douglas Morrisson Theatre in Hayward is proud to announce it largest ever donation, a gift just under $960,000, from The Leggo Family Trust. Kathleen Leggo, who died April 2, 2002, served as the Douglas Morrisson Theatre's property master for 18 years. Her portion of the Family Trust was allocated to the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District for the benefit of the Douglas Morrisson Theatre.
