The Village Voice's Michael Musto has announced on his La Daily Musto blog today that beloved stage star Angela Lansbury, though not officially announced yet, is indeed joining the upcoming A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC revival with Catherine Zeta-Jones.

South Coast Repertory kicks off the 2009-10 Season with Putting It Together, a compilation of Stephen Sondheim songs, that the composer put together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, creating a narrative set at a cocktail party in an elegant Manhattan condo. The non-traditional musical, led by Broadway and television star Harry Groener, has a cast of five (a glamorous but slightly jaded couple, a starry-eyed younger couple and a savvy observer) who sing more than 30 songs that reflect their lives, lifestyles and moods of the moment. Some of the songs will be familiar, some less so, a few were even cut from their original musical scores, but they are all sophisticated, smart and drop-dead droll. All, in other words, Sondheim.

A revival of Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler's A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is headed for Broadway. The production will be directed by Tony Award-winner Trevor Nunn, and will utilize the creative team behind the recent London production, which opened at the Menier Chocolate Factory before transferring to the Garrick Theatre on December 3, 2008. The new Broadway revival 'rehearses in October 2009. Opens in December. Dates tentative,' according to a recent Equity casting announcement.

Eric Schaeffer, the Artistic Director of Signature Theatre, tonight announced that Signature will honor Stephen Sondheim at a Gala Benefit in April and establish an annual award as a tribute to America's most influential contemporary musical theater composer. Stephen Sondheim's Tony Award-winning waltz musical A Little Night Music returns to Michigan Opera Theatre for the first time in over 25 years, and the fall 2009 production will represent the first time since 1992 that Michigan Opera Theatre has presented a musical as part of the main stage opera season. Tony Award winner Leslie Uggams and Broadway and television star Ron Raines have been announced to star as Desiree Armfeldt and Frederik Egerman in the production, set to run November 14-21. No other casting has been announced at this time.
