SHE HAS A NAME tells the story of a young lawyer, who poses as a john to build a legal case against a brothel ring that is trafficking young girls internationally. His investigation centers on NUMBER 18, a girl forced to work as a prostitute, and discovers that her testimony is key to proving his case. Can he convince her to risk her life to testify for the sake of justice? The play is haunted by voices who usher Number 18 to her fate.
Vonnegut's World," a new week-long celebration of Vonnegut-themed special events leading up to the World Premiere event of "Happy Birthday, Wanda June" at Indianapolis Opera, was announced today and will be held at an array of Indianapolis venues fromSeptember 7th-14th. Presented by Indy Opera in partnership with Indianapolis Art Center, Butler University, Indy FilmFest, Bluebeard Restaurant, and Indy Reads, the festival represents a unique collaboration of area arts organizations and local venues to explore the many facets of the famed Hoosier and iconic literary figure. The schedule of events includes an opening reception, panel discussion, film screening, reading, "brunch of champions," special music performances, and final dress rehearsal of the new opera, written by Kurt Vonnegut and composed by Richard Auldon Clark. Vonnegut completed the libretto just two weeks before his death in 2007.

Both operas are derived from ancient myth and feature a powerful, complex female protagonist. The season begins in October with Dido and Aeneas (Oct. 20-29, 2016), featuring Wallis Giunta and Christopher Enns, and continues with Medea (Apr. 22-29, 2017), featuring Peggy Kriha Dye and Colin Ainsworth. Following its Toronto run, Medea will tour to the Royal Opera House at the Palace of Versailles as part of Opera Atelier's engagement to perform there every two years.
