New York Philharmonic to Accompany CITY LIGHTS and FANTASIA Screenings This Spring

The New York Philharmonic will present two programs of film music in May 2016: a complete screening of Charlie Chaplin's CITY LIGHTS, May 19, 2016 - with the Orchestra performing Chaplin's score live, conducted by Timothy Brock, who restored the score for live performance - and Disney's FANTASIA, May 20-21, 2016 - in which selections from Fantasia and Fantasia 2000 will be screened as the Orchestra performs the music live, led by Assistant Conductor Joshua Gersen, in honor of Fantasia's 75th anniversary.

A Scot by birth, Catherine Helen Spence rose to prominence in Australia to become one of the world's leading voices for women's suffrage and feminism. Mr. Brooks, a distinguished novelist whose well-received works are sold worldwide, will also be participating in the Exhibition with a presentation on the life of Catherine Helen Spence on December 2nd at the Burnside Library(http://bit.ly/1NjcCxJ). Tony Brooks Born in England, Tony Brooks served in the Royal Navy, and then trained in education. He studied at the Institut Britannique and the Sorbonne in Paris, later becoming a primary school teacher and principal. Migrating to Australia in 1971, he taught for 10 more years at all levels of primary school and as a tutor/lecturer at Murray Park CAE. He has a degree in Educational Drama, and his scripts have been performed on stage, radio and film in Australia and the United States. He now lives in Plympton with his wife, Lyn, who is an artist and designer. ? City Theatre is excited to welcome playwright Mat Smart for a writing residency November 17-19, 2015. The residency will be tailored to Smart's individual creative needs and offer him full use of City Theatre's resources, a developmental reading with local actors, and artistic support from Director of New Play Development Clare Drobot and Artistic Director Tracy Brigden. Fulfilling its mission that emphasizes new play development, City Theatre also commissions works by diverse writers and produces world premiere productions, including this season's Some Brighter Distance by Keith Reddin, which will run January 23-February 14, 2016. City Theatre hosts an annual festival of new plays at different stages of development called Momentum, which will take place June 2-5, 2016.

The Old Globe today shared its 2016 Summer Season, which will feature new and familiar works directed by four major American stalwarts. The season features the welcome return of Steve Martin (Bright Star) with the World Premiere of his new play Meteor Shower, an adult comedy, directed by Gordon Edelstein, in a co-production with Long Wharf Theatre, where he serves as Artistic Director. Paul Gordon's musical Sense and Sensibility will have its West Coast premiere, presented in association with Chicago Shakespeare Theater, where it had its world premiere in February 2015, directed by CST Artistic Director Barbara Gaines. The Summer Shakespeare Festival will include Macbeth, directed by Brian Kulick, Artistic Director of Classic Stage Company, and Love's Labor's Lost, directed by three-time Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall.

Rubicon Theatre Company's MY FAIR LADY Begins This Month

The director and designers behind Rubicon Theatre Company's acclaimed environmental productions ofFiddler on the Roof and Man of La Mancha have reunited on the two-piano chamber version of the legendary Lerner and Loewe's classic My Fair Lady. Based on George Bernard Shaw's play Pygmalion, the musical tells the story of Professor Henry Higgins, an arrogant and attractive phonetician who makes a wager that he can transform a 'deliciously low' Cockney flower-seller (Eliza Doolittle) into an elegant lady by teaching her to speak more beautifully. The magnificent score includes 'I Could Have Danced All Night,' 'On the Street Where You Live,' 'Wouldn't It Be Loverly,' and 'I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face.' For Rubicon's production, Director James O'Neil returns to the source material to explore the Shavian themes of class struggle, social reform and women's rights.
